Colon Cancer

Colon cancer, also called colorectal cancer involves cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and the appendix. It is the third most common cancer in the world. Often, this type of cancer starts with mushroom-like growths in the colon called adenomatous polyps. Removal of these polyps during colonoscopy therefore reduces the subsequent risk of the condition. The risk of colon cancer, like is the case with other types of cancer increases with age and often it occurs in people who are in their 60s or 70s.

Women who have suffered from breast, uterus or ovarian cancer have a higher risk of developing colon cancer. Heredity is also another cause of this type of cancer. Individuals who have close relatives who have suffered from the disease before the age of 55 are at a higher risk of developing the disease. Smokers are also at a high risk of developing the disease as compared to non-smokers.

Studies have showed that people who consume mostly red meat and less fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and poultry have an increased risk of developing the disease. Physical activity reduces the risk of contracting this type of cancer and therefore regular exercise is recommended. People in industrialized countries are at a relatively high risk of suffering from colon cancer than those in developing countries.

Colon cancer takes sometime to develop and even sometimes may take years. Early diagnosis therefore improves the chances of curing it. Screening for this disease can be done through colonoscopy, digital rectal exam and through fecal occult blood where a test on the blood in the stool is done.

Risks Linked to Leukemia

While all the causes of leukemia are still not known, there are risks that have been linked to the development of various types of leukemia. There have been both environmental as well as genetic factors that have shown up as links to leukemia.

The type of leukemia a person has usually depends on the type of abnormal white blood cells that are being produced in the body. Leukemia produces abnormal or immature white blood cells in the bone marrow. At an early development of white blood cells, a blast is the immature form of white blood cells. This is the stage between the stem cell in the bone marrow and the mature blood. Blasts (immature blood cells) are found in limited numbers in the bone marrow of healthy people and not at all in the blood stream. People with leukemia may have high numbers of blasts in the bone marrow and even circulating throughout the circulatory system.

The different types of leukemia are grouped as acute or chronic. An acute leukemia usually produces immature white blood cells that are non-functioning. These cells rapidly reproduce and crowd out the healthy cells. A chronic leukemia produces abnormal blood cells that don't function as well as normal blood cells. These forms of leukemia are slower acting on the body than the acute forms of leukemia.

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) is most common in adults and causes the rapid development of immature white blood cells in the bone marrow crowding out normal cells and spreading these no-functioning cells throughout the body. This interferes in usual work of the normal blood cells. Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) causes an increased unregulated growth of myeloid cells in the bone marrow and an elevated amount of white blood cells in the blood. Severe anemia is a result of this overabundance of white cells.

Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) is most common among children under the age of fifteen. In this leukemia the rapid multiplying of malignant immature white blood cells crowds out normal white cells. This type of leukemia responds well to treatment if it is diagnosed in time. In chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) a defective white blood cell is produced in overabundance. This cell does not fight infection and crowds out the healthy cells. Often the chronic lymphocytic leukemia is only discovered after a blood test when the elevated white blood cell count is found.

Some of the risk factors that researchers have identified include high doses of radiation, long-term chemical exposure in the work place, cigarette smoking, and agricultural chemicals. High doses of radiation such as around the failed nuclear reactor at Chernobyl or military exposure during the nuclear detonations in the 1950's show a strong link to leukemia. Exposure to benzene, herbicides and pesticides have been linked to acute leukemia.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia has been linked to exposure to agricultural chemicals as has exposure to Agent Orange. Cigarette smoking seems to have an important link to acute leukemia. This is probably due to the chemicals such as benzene, polonium-210 and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Certain chemotherapy drugs especially alkylating agents combined with ionizing radiation may produce leukemia. Some diseases caused by abnormal chromosomes may increase the risk of leukemia. Philadelphia chromosome is a specific chromosomal abnormality in which parts of two chromosomes swap places. This can lead to acute myelogenous leukemia.

Colon Cancer Signs, Symptoms and Methods of Treatment

According to the latest facts, over 145,000 people are diagnosed with colon cancer symptoms each year. Colorectal is a cancerous condition that affects the organs of the digestive system and rectum. The body's primary digestive systems is made up of a large intestinal tract and colon.

Hence, the name colorectal. Combined these two organs have the responsibility of digesting food and extracting minerals and vitamins for the blood-stream where they are distributed to other parts of the body promoting nutritional health.

Symptoms include a wide variety of signs that indicate problems may be developing. Screening for early detection will play a significant role in helping you to overcome. Symptoms can include serious pain in your abdominal region, loss of appetite, blood in your bowel movements, feeling weak and fatigued, ongoing diarrhea, or prolonged constipation.

While these are not all inclusive symptoms, if you have chronic signs as these, you should consult with your doctor for further screening. The signs could be an indication of something entirely different such as something less serious, but nonetheless, should be treated.

Doctors use different methods to diagnose colon or colorectal cancer. The screening process involves a series of tests to evaluate this condition. The first and most common is a rectum exam where the doctor inserts a finger into the rectum to feel for lumps or growths. This is usually followed by a fecal test where stool samples are taken and analyzed for abnormalities.

If abnormalities are detected, a more advanced method may be employed such as the use of digital imaging that uses a variety of technological imaging devices to see inside the body. This can include MRI's, CT's, Colonoscopy, and even Ultrasounds. A biopsy may be required once the findings of abnormalities are confirmed.

Treatment can be intrusive or non-intrusive depending on the treatment plan your doctor designs for your treatment. The stage of colorectal cancer greatly determines the methods of treating cancer in the colon. Surgery is the most common treatment. Here affected sections of the intestines are simply removed. Depending on how large a section is removed will determine if the patient has to have a colostomy - where a stoma is inserted and body waste products are passed through to a bag and discarded.

Non-intrusive treatments can involve radiation therapy, chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, or Electrofulgeration. Each can be discussed with your doctor and each may have its own side effects. Prescription medications may be taken to help alleviate pain after surgery. Use the resources on the Internet site to find information on prevention, find pictures, understand the colon cancer stages, types of rectal carcinomas (cancer de colon), and find alternative treatments.

Effective Leukemia Treatment

Leukemia leads to a reduction of white blood cells in the body system. Leukemia can thus be treated by way of ensuring that the body increases the White blood cells count. Leukemia can also be treated just by use of the same methods as used to treat cancer.

Chemotherapy is one such way, though this may take too much time. In fact, treatment using this method can take a period of not less than two years. Another way of treating the condition is by fixing the bone marrow problem. This method is expensive and is done in very few countries since it involves use of sophisticated instruments and highly experienced medics.

Replacement of the infected bone marrow with a healthy one is what it entails. A radiation therapy is also recommended though this has to go hand in hand with chemotherapy. Radiation entails giving doses of x-ray for a couple of months.

In cases where there is overproduction of White blood cells, there may be some blood infections. This may lead to blood disorders, and hence become necessary to use antibiotics to fight the problem.

If leukemia is at early stages, one can prolong survival with active immunotherapy. This is however still being experimented, as it is reported by Leukemia Society of America. Leukemia is actually a chronic problem and its treatment is not a matter of a short duration of time. Patience is thus of paramount importance. Cases of complete eradication using the above mentioned methods have been reported worldwide.

Colon Cancer Treatment Options

The earlier colon cancer is detected, the higher survival rate increase. Colon cancer can be treated successfully with early detection so the best treatment of colon cancer is being checked regularly if you have a family history of it, fall under any of the risks factors for colon cancer, or are the age 50 or above.

Depending on the size of the cancer, location, overall general health, and in what stage the cancer was detected will play a factor into what type of treatment will be discussed with you through your doctor. The most common method of colon cancer treatment is surgical removal often followed by chemo or radiation is it is felt there is any risk of cancerous cells remaining. Surgical removal of cancer in the colon often results in a temporary or permanent colostomy. Your surgeon will remove the cancer from your colon along with a certain percentage of healthy colon on each side of the cancerous growth. They will then reattach the colon. In many cases, if the cancer is not caught at onset, the surgeon will have to remove quiet a large section of the colon leading to the need of a permanent colostomy bag. A colostomy bag becomes the new exit for your bodies waste. Sometimes a patient will have to wear a temporary colostomy bag to give the colon the proper time needed to heal successfully.

Chemotherapy or radiation may follow the surgical procedure if there is any chance that cancer cells were missed or thought to be in other areas of your body. Chemotherapy medications are administered either through an IV or through a pill form. The medication kills and controls cancerous cells. If colon cancer is caught at early onset, and presents very small and isolated, your doctor may consider using just chemotherapy or radiation to eliminate the cancer.

Radiation therapy uses ionizing radiation to control malignant cancer cells either before or after surgery, or both. It can also be done solely if the colon cancer is caught early. Before surgery, it is generally used to control and/or minimize the size of the tumor to make removal of the tumor easier. After surgery it s used to eradicate any existing cancer cells that may still be present. The ionized radiation is applied directly to the tumor and a small amount of the surrounding healthy tissue to ensure that the entire tumor is treated.

Biological therapy is also being offered to patients with colon cancer. It is still on a research basis treatment; however, researches have been seeing significant results. Biologic therapy works with your body's immune system to eliminate cancer cells. Currently there are several different types of biological therapy being tested including interferons, interleukins, colony stimulating factors, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, gene therapy, and nonspecific immune-modulating agents. Biological therapy can be used in conjunction of more traditional means of therapy, or depending on the stage of colon cancer, it can be used solely. The different types of biologic therapies, in theory, are a means to wake up your own immune system to recognize the cancer cells as being a foreign object in your system and fight them off much like your immune system does when you get a virus. Most of the biologic therapies are used to stop the growth of cancer cells, or control or suppress the growth.

If faced with colon cancer, educate yourself to all of the options available to you and discuss them in detail with your doctor. If you fall in the risk factors of colon cancer such as over the age of 50, previous history of cancer, family history, or other colon/rectal related problems make sure you get regular check ups. Early detection is essential in the battle of colon cancer.

The Lymph System and Cancer

The lymphatic, or lymph, system of the body is the main portion of the body devoted to fighting off infections and staving off disease. The system works through a network of vein-like vessels as well as clusters of organs known as the lymph nodes. The entire lymph system is important for immunity but also plays a role in cancer.

Unlike the blood stream, the lymph system has a dual role in cancer cases. Not only is it important for fighting off the disease by producing white blood cells and a variety of other important devices in a body's attempt to kill off the cells, but it also is one of the most common ways for cancer to spread to the other areas and organs of the body through metastasis. The bloodstream plays a role in metastasis but not in the first.

Cancer can start in the lymphatic system. When this occurs, it is known as lymphoma. When cancer doesn't start in the lymphatic system, like breast cancer, lung cancer, or pancreatic cancer, the cancer cells of that type or location can spread or metastasize through the lymph system quite easily. Once the cells make their way into the lymph system, it is much harder not only to fight the original source but also to completely cure a person.

Fortunately, the lymph system gives an individual some warnings signs that there may be a tumor somewhere in the body. The biggest clue is that the lymph nodes are enlarged. While this may not seem like a big clue, there are lymph nodes located close to the surface in the neck which can be felt without any real expertise.

Enlarged lymph nodes may also be a sign that cancer has started somewhere and spread to the lymph system. The cells in a tumor are bent on total domination and so easily break off from a tumor. They then are easily picked up by the lymph and are then able to go anywhere in the body. Breast cancer, which is a commonly spread cancer, is able to set up colonies throughout the body by its easy access to the lymph nodes located in the arm pits as well as under the sternum.

If a person notices that his or her lymph nodes are swollen, it is somewhat easy to determine if they are swollen due to cancer. A simple biopsy will determine if they are swollen due to an illness in the body or if they are swollen due to cancer.

Bowel Cancer - Early Detection

Surviving bowel cancer or colorectal cancer, as it's also known, depends on a number of factors.

Your best chance and the number one priority is early detection. This poses the question, should I have a colonoscopy just to be sure or do I want to see if I display some symptoms first. In some ways this is a no brainer, of course you want to be checked but the dilemma for most people is a little more complex.

Do I go to my doctor and tell him I want to have a colonoscopy to check if I have any signs of bowel cancer only to be asked, 'what symptoms do I have?' and for me to have a blank look on my face because I don't.

This is a dilemma that a lot of people have. Should I waste my doctor's time, after all I don't have any symptoms. Isn't it wrong to take up resources that should be used for people who are really sick? I won't get cancer that happens to other people. All these things come into play because it's human nature. Most of us have done it, put off going to the doctors or don't go because we feel we are wasting their time.

Maybe we are wasting their time but in the big picture so what? How many people go to a doctor to be treated for a cold, a viral infection that anti-biotics won't treat. Take some paracetamol, drink fluids, keep warm and rest is the advice you will get. Most of us know this but some still go to the doctor anyway. So yes, a lot of people probably do waste their doctor's time. Maybe you are sick and maybe you aren't, but until you've been examined by a doctor you won't know.

If you have the slightest thoughts that you may have symptoms of bowel cancer (colon cancer) go and see your doctor and have that colonoscopy, with a blank look on your face if need be. The main thing is to look after your health, after all good health is the only thing between you and death and for most of us death is too long term for the time being.

Naturally, there are some people who are going to be more at risk of getting bowel cancer and a number of other cancers because their risk factors are high. Some of these factors can be eliminated and some can't. In my next article I will be talking about the risk factors that can influence our overall health and the risk of getting bowel cancer.

Leukemia Treatment Failure - Are There Alternatives?

I just read the story of a young man in England who is dying of leukemia. He has been through chemotherapy and radiation therapy twice. He has also had a bone marrow transplant. He has suffered through the side effects of the new bone marrow attacking his body. He has been on steroids and other drugs.

His cancer returned despite all of the treatment. He lost his girlfriend, he lost his job and he lost his flat and moved in with his parents. He is dying. He really believes that he will die.

I want to be very respectful and gentle because dying is a serious topic. However, what if there were alternatives that may help? I cannot speak for you, but it seems to me that if modern mainstream medicine failed me, I would turn to alternative medicine.

What about the work of Renee Caisse and her Essiac formula? What about the work of a German biochemist named Johanna Budwig? What about the excellent book: How To Fight Cancer and Win?

What about the work of Bernie Siegal - a cancer surgeon who found another way? There are people who have defeated cancer.

Again, I don't mean to make light of a situation as serious as cancer or leukemia. But, is it prudent to except the fact that one is incurable because a few doctors following the protocals of allopathic medicine thought there was no hope? Stories abound of people who have successfully defeated their cancer or have been in remission so long that you might as well say they won the fight.

Here are some more things to explore: What about juicing wheat grass and vegetables. What about macrobiotic diets. What about...? The list is long.

Since cancer is a serious disease, don't take any chances. What I wrote here was for information and entertainment only. I certainly do not intend to provide advice, diagnosis or treatment suggestions for cancer. If you have or think you have any type of health condition at all, visit your doctor for advice, diagnosis and treatment. The USFDA certainly hasn't evaluated any of the thoughts in this article, nor are they likely to if they continue to follow the trend of their history. Natural treatments are often ignored and not scientifically investigated. There is no one paying for such research.

Risk Factors in Bowel Cancer

Most of us flirt with the risk factors for bowel cancer. How many of us don't exercise enough; eat the wrong foods and have bad habits such as drinking and smoking that are not conducive to good health? How many of us are stressed in our high powered lifestyles and don't seem to have enough time to exercise or prepare healthy meals?

So what are the risk factors for bowel cancer and what can we do about them.
The main risk factor of bowel cancer is age.

* 83% of people who get bowel cancer are over the age of 60yrs.
* Poor diet.
* Lack of exercise.
* Smoking.
* Being over the age of 50. (risk increases with age)
* You have a family history of bowel cancer.
* If you have ever had Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
* If you have previously had polyps called adenomas in your bowel.

So, if 83% of people who get bowel cancer are over the age of 60 years and I'm well under that, I'm safe, right? Not exactly, there's still17% left who get bowel cancer below that age and some in their 20's.

So what to do? For a start, if you are approaching 60years old, book yourself in for a colonoscopy. Who knows they may find nothing, on the other hand they may find something that can be dealt with before it gets serious. For those younger, be vigilant and look for any signs and symptoms that may manifest themselves.

Fortunately bowel cancer is fairly slow in developing; unfortunately it doesn't show symptoms until it's developed. Therefore, the earlier you go to the doctor, if any symptoms do occur, the better for your long term survival.

Poor diet, something a lot of us suffer from. Whether it be fast food for convenience sake or those yummy snacks we eat when we are probably not even hungry, it doesn't matter, they take their toll. For a start this type of food will probably be high in fat or processed to death. Take your pick, neither is good. Fresh vegetables and fruit are a good start on the road to good eating habits. Plenty of fibre and water to get the flow going is another plus on the road to good eating habits. There are plenty of books on the subject, go out and find them and educate yourself.

Lack of exercise, another pastime we often ignore, especially when we are asleep in front of the TV. You don't have to be a marathon runner to exercise. Walking is extremely good for you.10,000 steps a day is fantastic. Get yourself one of those step counters and clip it to your belt and see how much you walk in a single day. Some will be pleasantly surprised and some will be disappointed. The good thing is it's a simple way to define and reach your goal. Be good to yourself and use the stairs, walk the dog, walk to the shops and leave the car at home. Do any sort of walking to get your 10,000 steps and you are heading toward the healthy zone.

My next article will finish off the risk factors we started in this article.

Basic Facts About Lymphoma

Lymphoma is a type of cancer that occurs in our lymphatic system. Lymphatic system is a network of small vessels and tissues spaces that circulates fluid called lymph throughout the body. Our lymphatic system consists of organs, ducts, bone marrow, spleen, tonsils and lymph nodes.

Lymphoma usually originates in the lymph nodes located all around the body, but they can also develop around lymph tissue that does not form distinct nodes. When lymph cancer develops in lymph nodes or lymph tissues, cells in the lymphatic system replicates abnormally.

Lymphomas are grouped into two major categories: Hodgkin's disease (HD) and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL).Hodgkin's disease tends to origin from lymph nodes and is found most commonly in younger adults while non-Hodgkin's disease can spread beyond the lymphatic system and occurs mostly in middle aged or elderly people.. These two major types of lymphoma are further divided into several subtypes. Diagnosis of lymphoma is usually done by biopsy of lymph nodes.

Lymph nodes affected by lymphoma appear prominently enlarged and disfigured. They may be stiff and have appearance similar to that of fish flesh. In extremely rare cases they are rock hard and they may show areas of cellular deaths (necrosis). Patients with lymphoma may have painless swellings of lymph nodes in the neck, underarm and/or groin. Some patients, especially those with Hodgkin's disease shows symptoms such as fever, night sweats, malaise fatigue, weight loss and itchy skin.

The treatment of lymphoma depends on the type of lymphoma diagnosed and also on the stage of the cancer, its location, the extent of symptoms and the physical condition and health of the patients. Radiotherapy is a preferred treatment for patients with both types of lymphoma. The other treatment options include chemotherapy, bone marrow or stem cell transplants, radio immunotherapy or biologic therapy.

What Kind of Fat Does Colon Cancer Like?

Colon cancer is complex disease, one that involves both genetic and environmental factors. However, fifty to eighty percent of cases of colon cancer are considered due to environmental factors, such as daily diet habits. High intake of dietary fruits and vegetables and low intake of a hydrogenated or saturated fat have been associated with a decreased risk of several cancers, including colon cancer.

With a cohort around 3000 peoples, statistic study provides an accurate picture of the involvement of a special class of fat. The cancer research study was performed from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and showed a strong correlation with hydrogenated fat intake, saturated fat and pro-inflammation fat with the apparition of this cancer. For sure, the amount of the baddest fat were worst when take in greater quantity. This ugly fat are used by the process industry to flavor and give texture to the process foods. The perfect example of food with hydrogenated fat are margarine, which become popular after the second World War. This fat has the worst effect on the correlation with colon cancer.

On the bright side, the fat omega-3 which is known to be anti-inflammatory promotes a protection against cancer. By reducing the inflammation with this fat, you inhibit one process known to cause colon cancer. This omega-3 fat can be found in fish oil, walnut and olive oil. Do remember that everything is about proportion, your need to switch your intake of the bad fats and replace them with good fats.

One of the best strategy is to replace the majority of hydrogenated oil like margarine and butter with extra virgin olive oil. By doing so you knock two birds with one stone. You lower your bad fats intake and replace it with good fat that control inflammation. What to find more functional foods that has good fat go to healthy olive oil.

Yanick Bertand PhD has a passion to educate people in the fight against cancer. Through his many years of research on biological impacts to cancer, Yanick Bertand has discovered that a reaction occurs when we fight cancer with nutritional elements - such as the food that we eat. In his research on the fight against cancer, Yanick has come across critical information that is not known by the general public. It is Yanick's desire to educate the public on how they can help fight cancer.

Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma - What Increases Your Risk?

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is diverse group of cancers of lymphatic system which is part of human immune system. The lymphatic system includes lymph vessels, lymph nodes, lymph, tonsils, thymus and spleen. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is most commonly detected in older adults in the age groups of 60s and 70s.

There are no known causes for development of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma however medical experts believe that disorders in immune system and older age may increase your chance of having the disease. Research is going on all the time to try to find out other causes that led to the development of this disease.

The following risk factors may increase your chance of acquiring this disease:

Being Male: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is more common in males than in women.

Age: Though NHL can occur at any age but risk increases as ones age progresses. It is most commonly found in people above 60 years of age.

Past cancer treatment: Past cancer treatment can affect your risk of NHL two-fold. Some chemotherapy drugs can increase your risk of getting NHL 10 to 15 years after treatment. Having radiotherapy in the past also increases your risk of acquiring NHL.

Weakened immune system: NHL is most commonly found in those people whose immune system does not work properly. These include HIV and AIDS patients. It also occurs among those people who take medicines that impair the immune system following an organ transplant.

Viral infection: Infection with virus called 'Human T cell Lymphoma virus 1 (HTLV1), hepatitis's C, and Epstein-Barr Virus increase the risk of developing NHL.

Bacterial infection: The bacteria called "Helicobacter pylori" increases the risk of Lymphoma called MALT (mucosa associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma. This type of lymphoma is usually located in stomach lining.

Environmental Exposure: Exposure to insecticide and pesticide, solvents, rubber processing, asbestos, arsenic, nuclear waste and fertilizers increases the risk of developing NHL.

Colon Cleansing - Cancer Prevention

Cancer of the colon is a statistical probability that many in western countries may have to face. Also known as colorectal and large bowel cancer, it is the third commonest form of cancer. There is a diagnostic incidence of approximately 100 a day in the United Kingdom. In 2008, over 100,000 colonic cancers were diagnosed in the US. Sufferers are predominantly from the developed world.

The survival rate for colon cancer, currently approximating 50%, improves with early diagnosis. Although the mortality rate has decreased in recent years, probably due to better colon screening programmes that have allowed early detection and timely treatment, it remains high enough to warrant consideration as a dangerous threat to longevity.

Cancer is the process and consequence of cells dividing and multiplying uncontrollably and at a faster than normal rate. The mass of tissue formed by the growth and collection of those abnormal cells is known as a tumour.

A tumour that enlarges but stays in one place is referred to as benign.

When those cells begin and continue to invade surrounding organs or break away from their original site to spread to other organs via the blood and lymph systems and grow in the same uncontrollable way, the tumour is then categorized as malignant. This process of abnormal cell propagation is known as metastasis. Malignant tumours are very often seriously life-threatening, causing death, sometimes very soon after diagnosis.

Screening and prevention are crucial in the drive to reduce colorectal cancer mortality rates. Tumours have metastasized in one fifth of cases at the time of diagnosis.

Signs and symptoms.

Blood and mucus in the stools.
Persistent diarrhea or constipation.
Unexplained abdominal pain or swelling.
Weight loss.
Fatigue.

Although there may be other causes for the above signs and symptoms, it would be sensible to seek medical advice to elucidate causality.

Causes.

There is a statistical age correlation. 80% of cases are in the 60 + group.

It is generally believed that diet plays a contributory role in bowel cancer. For example, research has indicated that excessive consumption of red meat may increase the chance of developing colon cancer. When inside the bowels, a pigment that colours red meat breaks down into chemicals that can damage the DNA in cells lining the intestinal tract. Those damaged cells may then proliferate in a way that causes the formation of tumours. On the other hand, a diet consisting of oily fish, fruits, vegetables and fibre-rich foodstuff reduces the likelihood of developing colon cancer.

Heavy smoking and alcohol-drinking are also thought to be possible causes.

Obesity and being overweight are among the suspected culprits.

Those from a family with a history of bowel cancer and having previously suffered from polyps seem to fall in the higher risk group.

Lack of exercising appears to be linked to the incidence of the disease.

Inflammation of the lining of the intestinal tract is suspected of predisposing it to carcinoma. Conditions such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease may increase the risk of developing bowel cancer.

Treatment.

Colon cancer is treated by :-
• surgery - the most used method,
• chemotherapy - a post-surgical and palliative option and
• radiotherapy - in selected cases

Screening.

The results from screening programmes to facilitate early detection have been encouraging. There is an 80% chance of treatment being successful when the disease is discovered early. The risk of fatality is reduced by 16% by having regular bowel checks. The U.K's National Bowel Screening Programme, started in 2006, aims to offer all those in the at-risk age-group a Faecal Occult Blood (FOB) test by 2009.

Sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy are other detection and diagnostic tools that should be promptly considered when there is the slightest concern about the healthy functions of the bowel, particularly if any of the above signs and symptoms is experienced.

Prevention.

Preventing cancer from starting in the first place clearly has to be high on the list of priorities.

We can all make a very significant contribution to reducing the risks of becoming a victim of colon cancer. Thus, starting a healthier diet, taking up exercise, paying attention to our weight and waist line, reviewing drinking and smoking habits are steps that we can action. The sooner they are considered and practiced, the lesser the risks of succumbing to carcinoma of the bowel.

Colon cleansing.

It has been said that death starts with an unhealthy colon.

A colon that is not evacuating properly becomes impacted with decaying matter. Harmful toxins accumulate in the bowels and are absorbed into the blood stream. Parasite infestation, infection, inflammation, ulceration and cancerous tumours are other possible developments within a dysfunctional colon.

A healthy colon is absolutely essential to prevent ailments that may create a medium for the development of cancer. Inflammation of the lining of the intestines has been linked to tumour formation.

Colon cleansing is therefore certainly worth including in a preventative plan for good colonic and general health.

Used by the Egyptians over a millennium ago, colon cleansing is still valued today as a detox treatment that rids the colon of toxins that can be absorbed in the blood stream, parasites that can infest and attack the lining of the intestinal tract, mucus that can have pathogenic effects and decomposing matter that has overstayed within its walls causing constipation.

Colon cleansing, as well as contributing to the prevention of bowel cancer, may also be beneficial to constipation, diarrhea, weight loss, effective peristalsis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, diverticulitis, bloating, flatulence, indigestion, halitosis, hypertension, cholesterol control, auto-intoxication, sinus problems, backache, headaches, fatigue, hemorrhoids, insomnia, irritability and skin conditions.

The detoxifying effects of colon cleansing produce a feeling of well-being and vitality as more energy is derived from the better absorption of food nutrients through the cleaner intestinal walls.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Defeated With PH Balance and Nutritional Therapy

As a person diagnosed with CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia) since 2001, I've had my eyes trained on Google Alerts and on the web in general, regularly looking for breakthroughs, both conventionally and in the alternative medicine arena. Many people who are diagnosed with CLL are told to hold off on any treatment, as the disease often progresses slowly, and any improvement with treatment is not permanent. Worse yet, the course and aggressiveness of the disease can change at any time. Patients are told to "watch and wait." This is not a happy way to live.

No role models. The sad truth is that, until this past January 2009, I could find no reference (not one) of any person who was cured of CLL through any kind of traditional medical -- or alternative -- therapy. The only exception are those who have been cured by way of a bone marrow transplant (BMT). Unfortunately, many people do not survive the procedure. It is extremely risky. Worse yet, a patient can survive the BMT and still have CLL, or develop CLL again at a later date.

The five-year time-line. Despite all the research and trials, there is still no conventionally-sanctioned therapy (chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, etc.), short of BMT, that can effect a cure. Doctors give patients the hope for a complete remission of five years with some of the available therapies. Not all patients achieve complete remission in the first round of chemotherapy. And the chance of success, measured by five-year survival, decreases with each new form of conventional therapy. Not an encouraging picture. This situation has been evident to me since 2001, when I was forty-six and first diagnosed. Who wants to hear about a five-year life plan when you're forty-six? Not me! While there have been some promising conventional "breakthroughs," the survival rate remains pretty much the same today.

The search for an alternative. My search for an alternative treatment, or treatment protocol, has been equally difficult. I have been able to find testimony on the web of leukemia patients who have become cancer-free (acute myelogenous leukemia or acute lymphocytic leukemia), but no such luck for CLL. At best, there were stories of people who had held off their CLL with the controversial laetrile (apricot seed extract). But no one with CLL had become cancer free. I was discouraged, but I never gave up the search, or my attempt to discover a blueprint to good health.

The 2009 breakthrough. In January of this year, my Google Alerts revealed an article written by Steve Freier, a man with CLL who recovered to full cancer-free health. He regained his health by having his root canals removed and also by taking coral calcium. Because of his experience, I am in the process now of having all my mercury amalgams replaced with safer porcelain fillings. To find information about his recovery, type "Steve Freier" and "CLL" into Google.

Breakthrough #2. In April 2009, while searching for information about infrared saunas and its effect on leukemia, my husband came across this website: http://www.CLLDefeated.com. It is the story of Hessel Baartse, of Adelaide, Australia. He has totally defeated his CLL by means of removing his root canals and mercury amalgams, and by drastically altering his diet and supplementation, with a concentration on restoring his pH levels to a healthy balance. He credits his dentist, www.ericdavisdental.com for his complete recovery.

There are finally role models for CLL recovery. What used to be a complete mystery now is a challenge with a blueprint for success. There are now at least two cases of men who have beat the odds and defeated their CLL by means of mercury amalgam and root canal removal, nutritional therapy, and pH balance. The further good news is that this program is likely a blueprint to health for people with many other chronic health issues, including cancers.

The future. Because of the Internet and the speed with which we can share information, more people will be able to find a way to recover their good health through alternative means.

Drugs That Are Utilized to Treat Colon Cancer

Colon cancer is one of the worst and most irritating cancers that you may hurt from. This is because it can be tough to discover it in its early level and even harder to keep it from gravely wounding someone's body. However, there are distinct treatments that are used to help keep it from distributing to essential organs in the body.

Chemotherapy is the more frequent treatment employed to care for colon cancer. During this therapy physicians will settle on what kind of medicines that might be employed to help kill off the cancer cells and to maintain it from distributing. There are many several distinct medicines that can be employed - but only your physician will recognise which ones to utilize.

Adrucil

This is a type of medication that is used to keep the cancer cells from growing. This is employed to address not simply colon cancer - but likewise breast, rectum, stomach, and head cancers.

Camptosar

This is a commonly used drug that is given during chemotherapy for colon cancer and lung and ovarian cancer. There are some physicians that will allow the patient to take it on their own or who will prescribe it to them with other medicines for chemotherapy.

Eloxatin

This is one form of chemotherapy drug that likewise operates to remove all the continuing cancerous cells that live in the body. It is utilized to care for colon cancer and will be given to the patient to take when required. Yet, the physician may give it to the person along with other drugs.

Bowel Cancer and a Positive Attitude

We've all heard about the power of positive thinking. Having a positive attitude and so on.

Some of us will have found that these clichés are indeed true. Positive thinking can change your life dramatically. For many people their positive attitude has carried them through many adversities. For some, its made them rich believing in themselves and what they can achieve by being positive and pushing on regardless of what's put in their path. There are many paths in our lives where a positive attitude has triumphed over what might seem insurmountable obstacles.

In case you were wondering what this has to do with bowel cancer and indeed any cancer, it's this same positive attitude of the patient that's important in the recovery process and in fighting the disease itself. The mind plays a significant part in the healing process of cancer and time and again its been shown that patients with a positive attitude fare better than those that give up or are overly pessimistic.

The power of the mind can be demonstrated by such occurrences as the pointing of the bone by Aboriginals at a member of the tribe, who has done something wrong, and is to be punished. There have been authenticated cases (1953) where this has occurred and the victim has simply died over a short period of time with no medical explanation. (Sources: John Godwin, Unsolved: The World of the Unknown, pp. 163-76; Ronald Rose, Living Magic, pp. 30-36):
Even though this is a somewhat morbid demonstration of the power of the mind it does show how powerful it is. Powerful enough for a person to believe he is cursed to die, and does so.

Could it now be argued that you could use the power of the mind to not die and to survive your cancer despite the odds? My research has shown that you can't afford to take this literally. I don't think it can be said, that if you have a positive attitude you won't die from cancer. That depends on a number of other factors but what I do think you can say is, having a positive attitude helps enormously in surviving.

The cancer patients I interviewed for my book, who are long term survivors, have all taken a positive attitude toward their treatment and outcome. None of them were ready to lie down and die just because they had cancer. They had the courage and the fortitude to take on this disease and beat it.

I don't think many of us can say how we would feel if diagnosed with bowel cancer. It would certainly take the wind out of your sails primarily, but having talked to these people who have survived I think, after my initial shock, I would be doing the same as they did. I would be positive about the outcome and would let nothing stand in my way in beating this terrible disease to live a long and happy life.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a cancer and is one of many illnesses that occur with the exposure of benzene. Like other kinds of leukemia, it develops in the bone marrow spreads to the blood, lymph nodes, organs, the nervous system and other body parts. If it is not detected early enough, AML can be fatal within a few months.

Benzene Exposure

Exposure to benzene for a long period is a known risk factor. This carcinogen is a solvent used in industries that create drugs, rubber, dyes, plastics and other things. People working in these industries have a higher risk of developing AML.

Groundwater is another place where exposure to benzene can occur. This can happen near petroleum plants and gas stations when a leak happens or waste products were not disposed as it should be. Then these and other dangerous chemicals may soak into the groundwater and residents close by may consume these chemical

An individual who was exposed to this carcinogen for a long period and then developed acute myeloid leukemia may be allowed to seek compensation for the damages suffered. If you think your illness was caused by being exposed to benzene, contact a lawyer.

Additional Risk Factors

More factors increase the risk of acute myeloid leukemia consisting of:

  • Smoking
  • Some chemotherapy drugs, especially if combined with radiation therapy
  • Some illnesses of the blood includes myelodysplastic syndrome, which damages the development of blood cells and may grow into leukemia

Common and Specific Symptoms

Common symptoms of this leukemia are likely to be similar to conditions that are not as severe. These symptoms may include:

  • Fever
  • Tiredness
  • Lack of appetite or weight loss

More specific symptoms include:

  • Anemia and its related symptoms (lightheadedness, weakness, headache)
  • Chronic infections
  • Bone/joint pain
  • Abdominal inflammation
  • Swelling, pain, bleeding of the gums
  • Rash (spottiness or bumps) on the skin

Diagnosis and Treatment

It is important that acute myeloid leukemia be diagnosed early and treated as soon as it is diagnosed for a positive result. In diagnosing this leukemia, doctors will need a complete medical history about the patient. A doctor will be able to tell if the patient was exposed to any risk factors such as benzene. A series of tests will be run including blood tests, lab tests and other related tests. If the illness was found in any tests, treatment plans will be set, for example:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Operation
  • Radiation treatment
  • Bone marrow transplant
  • Clinical trials

Other treatments a doctor may suggest to relieve an individual's pain is acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga, etc.

Diagnosed with AML?

Contact a lawyer if you were diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia because of being exposed to benzene for a long period. Medical lawyers are experienced in these types of cases. They will evaluate your case at no cost and they will advise you of your legal options. You may be entitled to money damages for the medical costs and other associated expenses due to your condition.

Did We Give Our Child Cancer?

PART 1: The worst day of my life:

I knew that it could be serious when our doctor called and said he'd made an appointment for our 4 year old daughter Laura, at the Children's ward of a major hospital 50 miles away.

We packed up the car and started out. Not much was being said between my wife an I. It was a dreary day, overcast with a little light rain. As we drove down the highway, I remember hoping for some sort of a sign .... maybe the clouds would suddenly separate and the sun would break through and shine down on us ... maybe a car would drive by and the people inside would look over and give us a friendly smile ... anything that would assure me that someone from above was telling me everything was going to be OK. But there were no signs.

We managed to find the hemoc/oncology unit with little trouble. My initial reaction as we entered the room was that of horror, seeing all those precious young children in such poor health. I said to myself "why are we here ? My daughter can't be this sick." Girls and boys, both walking very slowly, some with limps, no hair on their heads, some with scars, others pulling an IV along with them. Was this a preview of what my daughter will soon look like?

After a lengthy wait, it was time for Laura's test - a spinal tap. My wife held her in her lap as the drugs were administered .... it was only 3 or 4 seconds before my daughters eyes rolled back in her head and her body went limp. It was a vision I will never be able to get out of my mind. My eyes filled with tears, as it appeared the life had been taken completely out of her. She was placed on a table, and we were politely asked to leave. What a gut-wrenching feeling I had in my stomach as I walked away from her now motionless body.

The nurse said, "she'll be OK, she's just sleeping .. the procedure won't take long, and she'll soon be back in your arms".

From that point on, time seemed to stand still. I could hear the clock ticking. 10 minutes went by, then 20 and pretty soon 30 minutes had elapsed and still nothing. It was then that I knew that this was as serious as Laura's pediatrician had thought. The waiting was unbearable.

Finally, the doctors emerged and their faces said it all. There were no smiles. The lead doctor came over and invited us into another room, and then it came ... "I'm sorry, but your daughter has leukemia". There was total silence.

PART 2: The reason why?

As time went by, I kept thinking to myself, "why did this happen? We've had no history of cancer on either side of our families, much less leukemia". Were we being punished for some reason?

We had our home and the babysitter's home tested for radon gas ... both came back negative.

We don't live near a bunch of powerlines, so electromagnetic wires were not the culprit.

Could this have happened during childbirth? (Laura was delivered by C-section)

So many questions were being asked, without getting any answers, which only led to more questions.

The one that kept coming back into my head was "How"? How did this happen .. and why her? I felt so helpless, but knew that I had to do something to help my little girl (as well as my other daughter, my wife and myself). Something brought this on, I just didn't know what.

So I started educating myself, not just on leukemia, but health in general, and what I found out was disturbing to say the least. We are living in a toxic mess - exposing our bodies to a virtual onslaught of dangerous chemicals every day.

Chemicals in body wash, in shampoos, in soap, in body lotion, in toothpaste, in mouthwash, in hair spray, in cosmetics, in air fresheners, in household cleaners, in dish detergents .. the list goes on and on. Could this be what caused my daughter's illness? Could it have been brought on by the lifestyle that my wife and I were living prior to conception? Could it have been brought on during the pregnancy? Could it have happened after Laura was born?

Was her sickness caused by these things that we used on a daily basis?

To this day, we still don't have all the answers, but we have changed our lifestyle. I didn't realize how much I took health and life for granted until I thought my daughter's was in jeopardy. Every day is a gift now.

I believe everything in life happens for a reason. Perhaps God chose me deliberately .. to go thru this, learn from it and then pass along my new found knowledge. My guess is, his plan was for me to teach others so that they may never have to endure the pain and agony of watching their child (or some other loved one) go thru what our child went thru. Learn from my experience, so that you may possibly avoid one.

Knowledge is one thing, but action is quite another. The second part of this plan must have been to align me with a company which offers products of unrivalled purity and effectiveness - free from any harmful ingredients. It is this company and their products that I now use and recommend to all that come in contact with me. I feel it's my duty in life and something that I was meant to do.

Cancer is a dreaded disease that has robbed us all of so many wonderful people. I have seen first hand what it's like to watch somebody battle thru it. It's not fun and it's not pretty. In fact some researchers are predicting that by the year 2030, 26 million people a year worldwide will be diagnosed with cancer, with 17 million dying from it.

So it is my mission to educate people on the dangers in the products they are using on a daily basis and offer them healthy alternatives. I'm actually quite angry at what is being sold to unknowing customers ... products being touted as "safe", as "natural", as "gentle", as "organic" ... are really anything but that. Products with catchy names and slogans in brightly colored, fancy shaped packages - all in the hopes of making a healthy profit, but making it anything but healthy for the end user. Unless we change our lifestyles and start supporting companies like the one I've aligned myself with, those researchers may well have made an accurate prediction for the year 2030. My goal is to make those numbers much, much less .. one person or one generation at a time.

In closing, let me leave you with a thought - perhaps the final part of God's plan was for you to read this story and then see if you'll act on it.

Like I said earlier, I believe everything in life happens for a reason.

The Small and Mighty Acai Berry Fruit and Colon Cancer

There are many food supplements available in the market today, the manufacturers are praising to high heavens, the efficacy of their products in preventing colon cancer and are using the internet and other media to widen their advertisement but so far none of them could compete with the power of acai berries. Acai berry is the fruit of the acai palm tree which grows in the Brazilian Amazon forest. It is just as small as a purple marble or a grape but it is a mighty fruit; and has been acclaimed as the super food for its contributions to physical health and wellness.

One of its benefits is its propensity in preventing colon cancer. Considered as the number two cause of death in the United States at present, colon cancer has become the center of researches to find what could be its cure; but prevention is much better than cure so we can look at the potentials of this fruit berry.

Acai berry is teeming with antioxidant which eliminates the free radicals in your system because these molecules or toxins coming from the pollutants around you cause diseases and damage your DNA.

Everyday, you encounter pollutants in your environment such as smoke, pesticides, sprays, insecticides and others; they are also in the food that you eat such as meat, sugar, dairy products and others. They get into your body as free radicals or toxins and start attacking the body cells which can lead to cancer. The natural antioxidants inside the body are supplemented by those from the acai and they strengthen the cells and battle to flash off these toxins from the system. By cleansing the systems from these harmful toxins, the antioxidant prevents cancer cells from developing.

When you look at an acai berry, it looks just like an ordinary berry, it is small and round; but when you stop to consider its benefits, especially in preventing colon cancer, you will realize that it is a mighty fruit and it truly deserves the title of super berry.

Leukemia Treatment With Green Tea?

Chronic lymphocyte leukemia is the most common subtype of leukemia in the United States. It is presently an incurable disease. Unlike most other types of cancer in which early diagnosis increases the probability that a patient can be cured, treatment with cytotoxic chemotherapy is associated with increased toxicity but no increase in patient survival.

Despite this grim fact, there is good news. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology has shown patients with chronic lymphocyte leukemia in a phase one study, had a reduction of their lymphocyte in 33 % of participant. By doing so, the team of cancer researchers from the State University of New Jersey, established a positive link between green tea and a potential treatment of leukemia.

Several epidemiological studies have demonstrated that the consumption of green tea decreased the risk of cancer. Furthermore, prevention of the apparition of a tumor in animal models by tea, supported its ability to interfere with basic cancer processes, like angiogenesis and inflammation.

Green tea in a pill is still a long way off before the Food and Drug Administration approves this to be prescribed by your oncologist. By counting the phase 2 and the phase 3 studies, we are talking about 4 to 5 years before commercialization if all went well. And I am not bring the cost of these pills.

A tasty drink made with inexpensive ingredient, tea bought from the local market could sidestep many of these concerns. After all, food is the one medicine that we seem quite willing to take at least three times a day.

Ways to Detect Colorectal Cancer

Colon or Colorectal cancer, is one of the leading contributors to cancer deaths in the US. This cancer, just like other cancers, must be caught early so that you can have it properly treated. Although the tests may be difficult and uncomfortable for you, it is most wise for you to be able to know early if you have this cancer so you'll be able to do the necessary actions for you to survive.

Calculate the risk. As with many health issues, colon and rectal cancers can have a family tendency. To find out your risk level for this cancer, you should examine the medical history of your immediate family members. Have any of your family members been victims of colon or rectal cancers previously? How old were they when they were diagnosed? Watch out for inflammatory bowel disease which is a sign of cancer. It is imperative if you have experienced any issues with your colon at any time in your life to have regular screenings done by your doctor.

Be conscientious of your bowel movement patterns. Your feces can show if you are at risk of getting colorectal cancer. Take note of the frequency and consistency of your bowel movements. If anything arises make an appointment with your physician right away if you notice any changes in your bowels. In addition, keep an eye out for any rectal bleeding. This might be an early indication of a developing a cancer.

Do not ignore stomach cramps. One other method of detecting colorectal cancer is by paying attention to your abdomen. Stomach cramps and stomach irritation are indications that your bowels have something to communicate. Schedule an appointment with your physician to have a rectal screening immediately.

Make sure that you receive the appropriate screening. Aside from keeping tabs on the telltale signs of this cancer, you may still need to get a colon screening done to be able to know for sure. Your doctor may suggest a Fecal count and sigmoidoscopy as one of your 3 options, an annual fecal occult blood test along with a flexible sigmoidoscopy every 5 years.

A standard screening method used to detect colorectal cancer is colonoscopy. They are looking for lesions of the abnormal nature that could be cancerous, with a tiny camera inserted in through your rectum into your cleansed colon. Typically, these will be performed at intervals of ten years.

Another option is the double-contact barium enema. While it is unpleasant, it functions to enable detection of colon and rectal malignancies. Your doctor will do this procedure every 5-10 years.

As a rule, screening should begin at 50. You may want to get it checked out earlier if you've had this in your family history. Early detected Colorectal cancer is already half-treated.

Facts on Leukemia and What to Do About It

There are many facts known about leukemia and if someone is dealing with the problem it's these facts they need to know. Like all cancers, leukemia happens for a reason as its not some mysterious illness that science can't fathom. For instance it's exceptionally rare in S.E. Asia but is prevalent in all western developed countries.

Some of the facts that have been linked to leukemia are high voltage power lines and people living close to these have a much higher risk factor. The chemical formaldehyde that is commonly found in our homes has also been linked to it. Food items associated with leukemia are aspartame, the artificial sweetener in many soft drinks and chewing gum. Sodium nitrite is another; the additive is used in luncheon meats. Other meats that contain sodium nitrite are sausages, hot dogs, hamburgers, bacon, ham, and any meats that have been processed.

Foods that are known to help leukemia patients are turmeric, the root vegetable that is the yellow colouring used in curry powder, bananas, oranges as well as grape seed extract. Also vitamin A which is most abundant in carrots, broccoli, squash and spinach. As with most nutrients it is always best to get them from natural sources and not in supplement form. In other words eat grapes, that is grapes with seed in them and buy turmeric fresh, grate it and use it in cooking.

There are many facts known about all cancers but unfortunately today our medical system is more interested in treating these different cancers instead of providing us with these known facts so we can avoid the problem in the first place. We don't have cancer prevention today; we only have expensive toxic treatments that are not very effective. Remember there is nothing in our 3 main treatments that will stop the return of cancer.

All cancers including leukemia have many known causes and these are; nutritional deficiencies, our sedentary lifestyle and the chemicals we encounter everyday. Leukemia is cancer of the blood; the body has lost control and makes too many white blood cells so why would it be any different to any other cancer. Anyone with leukemia needs to address all these issues, that is eat food in its natural state, get some exercise and be wary of all chemicals we use in our homes these days.

There is no such thing as a single cause for cancer, all cancers have multiple causes so the way to successfully overcome leukemia is to address the underlying causes and a change of diet is a great start. A strict natural diet is of paramount importance.

Bowel Cancer Symptoms - Discover the Warning Signs That Could Save Your Life!

Bowel cancer symptoms include a wide range of undesirable signs, some of them include frequent and regular abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation. If these things are left untended one may even go as far as to experience bleeding in the anal orifice or hints of blood in the stool. Feelings of pain while defecating should also be given attention to as it can also be a sign of a developing tumor.

Bowel cancer, also known by its other two names, colorectal cancer and colon cancer, describes cancerous growths that stem from the colon, rectum and appendix. Most cases begin with adenomatous polyps found in the colon. Although these mushroom-like growths are usually benign, they can sometimes develop into cancer if they're left unchecked.

If ever gastrointestinal bleeding is present, then melena or black stool may also be present. Black stool with a tar like appearance implies that the malignant growth is located somewhere at the beginning of the large bowel. If the tumor grows large enough you may even experience bowel obstruction. This may present itself as constipation, abdominal pains and vomiting, sometimes even without nausea.

Some bowel cancer symptoms may be a bit odd in comparison, and almost unrelated. They are, however, an ever greater cause for concern because it means that the disease is most likely spreading. A sudden pallor to the skin, fatigue and frequent heart palpitations could mean that the tumor has already caused iron deficiency anemia.

Diagnosis of colon cancer is usually done through a colonoscopy followed by a surgical procedure and possibly even chemotherapy when malignant growths are found. In order avoid having to go through anything more dire than these signs, go to your doctor as soon as you suspect that you may be experiencing bowel cancer symptoms. Catching this disease early can mean the difference of life or death.

Discover More About Childhood Leukemia and Its Chronic Symptoms

Are you aware of childhood leukemia and where did it come from? You may be thinking that this is not a problem for you or your children today, but how about the future and the next generation? Nobody can't tell where this hematological disease come from, what may have started it, or what may have caused it. And this is what makes it somewhat depressing.

If you have a child who suffers from this disease, have you tried asking your doctor what may have caused this? Usually they can't really pinpoint which is which, for there are so many possible things that can trigger this, like for instance exposure to chemicals like benzene and dioxins, improper use of plastic materials, multiple nutritional problems, and merely because of genetics. All of these may affect the immune system of a child which may lead to further problems and diseases like this cancer of the blood called leukemia.

Do you know that it has been said that every single person has cancer cells in the body and it is possible that we may have already acquired them even at birth. However, these cancer cells are merely not detected as cancer unless it reaches a certain number which can be confirmed as a detectable size through a series of tests done. So you might be wondering how come your child has reached the age of 2, yet that is the only time that he or she have acquired this disease.

You may not be aware of it at first, but in the previous years or months that you are taking care of your child, he or she might have already acquired the chronic symptoms of leukemia, however wasn't still diagnosed having it because the cancer cells can't still be detected. The chronic symptoms may occur to be as a normal illness like frequent fever any time of the day, occasional stomach aches, sweating at night, bruising, getting colds and cough more often than usual. These symptoms are due to frequent ups and downs of the composition of your child's blood count. And usually a pediatrician would ask for a Complete Blood Count test and may prescribe a medicine to cure any possible infections.

Even a pediatrician can't detect childhood leukemia that soon, unless they have done all the tests and created their own work plan to pin point the main issue. Results of the tests sometimes may lead to severe anemia, or iron deficiency, but with concrete tests such as bone marrow testing, you will then be referred to a hematologist who would be able to read the findings of possible cancer cells present in the bone marrow.

It is not that easy to detect childhood leukemia if you are not aware that cancer is already present in our system and it can be triggered. With a strong immune system you can definitely prevent these cells from multiplying. So, better start living a healthy lifestyle and be aware of the environmental factors which could cause such health issues.
