Leukemia Treatment Failure - Are There Alternatives?

I just read the story of a young man in England who is dying of leukemia. He has been through chemotherapy and radiation therapy twice. He has also had a bone marrow transplant. He has suffered through the side effects of the new bone marrow attacking his body. He has been on steroids and other drugs.

His cancer returned despite all of the treatment. He lost his girlfriend, he lost his job and he lost his flat and moved in with his parents. He is dying. He really believes that he will die.

I want to be very respectful and gentle because dying is a serious topic. However, what if there were alternatives that may help? I cannot speak for you, but it seems to me that if modern mainstream medicine failed me, I would turn to alternative medicine.

What about the work of Renee Caisse and her Essiac formula? What about the work of a German biochemist named Johanna Budwig? What about the excellent book: How To Fight Cancer and Win?

What about the work of Bernie Siegal - a cancer surgeon who found another way? There are people who have defeated cancer.

Again, I don't mean to make light of a situation as serious as cancer or leukemia. But, is it prudent to except the fact that one is incurable because a few doctors following the protocals of allopathic medicine thought there was no hope? Stories abound of people who have successfully defeated their cancer or have been in remission so long that you might as well say they won the fight.

Here are some more things to explore: What about juicing wheat grass and vegetables. What about macrobiotic diets. What about...? The list is long.

Since cancer is a serious disease, don't take any chances. What I wrote here was for information and entertainment only. I certainly do not intend to provide advice, diagnosis or treatment suggestions for cancer. If you have or think you have any type of health condition at all, visit your doctor for advice, diagnosis and treatment. The USFDA certainly hasn't evaluated any of the thoughts in this article, nor are they likely to if they continue to follow the trend of their history. Natural treatments are often ignored and not scientifically investigated. There is no one paying for such research.

When all else fails, what do you have to lose by trying? Next, learn more about natural cancer treatments through the links below.

Sex After Prostate Cancer - a Wife's Sensual Secrets Revealed About Touch

Talking about relationships and sensuality isn't easy. Talking to people who have been through traumatic physical experiences and who are struggling with partner relationships is important.

My husband has had multiple health challenges, so I've had to take my own advice lately. I haven't shared with enough of you how we've been able to get through it all. We have had our arguments and yet we've found a way to have fun along the way. Sensuality can be a part of your life if you want to feel good or make someone you love feel good.

Let's agree that different people have different physical capabilities. Sensuality is about gratifying your senses. We have five senses to gratify. You can gratify senses without intercourse. You can find satisfaction in many ways. Consider the possibilities. What would you enjoy touching, seeing, hearing, tasting, or smelling? Do something for your senses. When we seek to enhance our touching experiences we can consider our soap, our body lotions, massage oils, pillows, and even lingerie.

Let's talk about the sense of touch. We can touch with fingers, hands, feet, toes, tongue, and nose to name a few possibilities. When we touch we can either help ourselves feel good or someone we love feel good. My husband told me that when his body parts didn't want to cooperate he was often frustrated, angry, and depressed.

Depression is not my specialty. I'm not a doctor. I don't take any medications. My husband thinks I should take something for menopause. I exercise... I don't smoke and I rarely drink any alcohol. When your partner has physical issues, it effects you too.

When you touch someone you have an opportunity to share love, express how much you care, and to display your feelings on a physical level. It is possible to feel good helping someone you love feel good, better, or great.

If you are going to touch someone you can choose to have products which enhance the touching sensations. As we travel around the world we look for products to recommend. We experiment with new sensations as much as possible.

We found products such as pure coconut oil and pure cocoa butter are lubricating and silky, smooth to touch. One coconut-pineapple massage oil from Fiji smelled so strong that the room retained the coconut-pineapple scent for three days.

If you would like to participate in the sensuality survey online to help us serve your needs and answer more of your questions, please let us know.

Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma - What Increases Your Risk?

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is diverse group of cancers of lymphatic system which is part of human immune system. The lymphatic system includes lymph vessels, lymph nodes, lymph, tonsils, thymus and spleen. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is most commonly detected in older adults in the age groups of 60s and 70s.

There are no known causes for development of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma however medical experts believe that disorders in immune system and older age may increase your chance of having the disease. Research is going on all the time to try to find out other causes that led to the development of this disease.

The following risk factors may increase your chance of acquiring this disease:

Being Male: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is more common in males than in women.

Age: Though NHL can occur at any age but risk increases as ones age progresses. It is most commonly found in people above 60 years of age.

Past cancer treatment: Past cancer treatment can affect your risk of NHL two-fold. Some chemotherapy drugs can increase your risk of getting NHL 10 to 15 years after treatment. Having radiotherapy in the past also increases your risk of acquiring NHL.

Weakened immune system: NHL is most commonly found in those people whose immune system does not work properly. These include HIV and AIDS patients. It also occurs among those people who take medicines that impair the immune system following an organ transplant.

Viral infection: Infection with virus called 'Human T cell Lymphoma virus 1 (HTLV1), hepatitis's C, and Epstein-Barr Virus increase the risk of developing NHL.

Bacterial infection: The bacteria called "Helicobacter pylori" increases the risk of Lymphoma called MALT (mucosa associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma. This type of lymphoma is usually located in stomach lining.

Environmental Exposure: Exposure to insecticide and pesticide, solvents, rubber processing, asbestos, arsenic, nuclear waste and fertilizers increases the risk of developing NHL.

How Acai Berries Prevent Colon Cancer

Colon cancer is now the second leading cause of death in America; brought about by the kind of life style people are living which is detrimental to the health of the colon system. Just imagine your day-to-day encounter with all the pollutants in the environment and the kind of food you are eating. Foods you eat most likely obstruct your colon, making the organ unable to cleanse itself and can result to colon cancer. But there is a small round fruit, the acai berry, which studies have proven to be very effective in preventing colon cancer.

Grown in the lush Amazon forest in Brazil, this berry, which is similar to a purple marble or a grape, is one of the most nutritious and powerful food worldwide. Acclaimed as a superfood, it is rich and teeming with a concentration of antioxidant which is 10 times more than that of red grapes and 10 to 30 times more than the anthocyanin of red wine. These powerful antioxidants fend off free radicals which are the molecules of pollutants that bring about diseases and injury to the DNA.

When you take in acai berry, its antioxidant gets into your body and starts to cleanse the system by ridding of the toxins that cause digestive ailment, cancer and other diseases as quickly and effectively as possible. So by means of the cleansing power of this fruit, the growth of cancer cells in the colon is prevented.

There are many drugs and supplements in the market today that claim their power to prevent colon cancer; but studies and researches substantiated that this berry is a mile ahead in its effectivity more than all of the others. In fact, you have a reason to believe that doctors are hesitant to prescribe acai berry in the prevention of colon cancer for fear of losing their patients.

Acai berry is just a small fruit but its cleansing power to prevent colon magnifies its size to the 100th measure.

Looking for a way to flush the pounds and lose weight the natural way? Acai berry is known as one of the world's superfoods. Harvested for its rejuvinating and detoxifying properties, you can never go wrong with this fruit.

What to Expect From Breast Cancer Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy is carried out using a large machine called a linear accelerator. The machine delivers a minute quantity of high-energy radiation which kills the cancerous cells. The radiation causes only the absolute minimal damage to skin tissue and stop cancer cells from reproducing. Radiation therapy has shown to vastly improve survival rates in women with breast cancer. Radiation therapy can be used for several reasons when related to breast cancer. Following a mastectomy or lumpectomy, the treatment can be used in conjunction with chemotherapy to lower the risk of cancer growing back.

Radiation therapy can also be used if a surgeon feels that the removal of a tumor isn't entirely in the best interests of a patient's health. Treatment can also help if cancer has spread into the bone structure or the brain, and can also be used if the cancer actually reoccurs.

The treatment process when undergoing radiation therapy is painless, but some patient can experience side effects. These may include dryness and discomfort of the skin that can be treated by your general practice if it occurs. However, it can take up to twelve months for the effects to completely heal. There is also the inevitable side effect of fatigue which normally happens around a fortnight into treatment. Fatigue can last up to a month after treatment is completed, but can be countered by getting more rest and having early nights.

Blood will need to be checked regularly for reduced counts and some women will experience a sore mouth or throat if treatment is carried out around that particular area. There are also significant lifestyle changes that may have to be made while radiation therapy is taking place. Rest is imperative and close attention needs to be paid to a healthy diet.

Regular blood tests will be necessary, and visits to the doctor should be made if unusual symptoms such as coughing, sweating, fever or pain occur. The affected area should receive extra care and be treated gently. Tight clothes around the area should be avoided to prevent rubbing. It's also important to moisturize the affected area after radiation therapy is complete and the treated area must also be kept out of direct sunlight.

The advances in radiation therapy means that long-term side effects are quite rare but they do still occur. Rib fractures, lung inflammation, damage to the heart, scarring and the association of other tumors like sarcoma are all possible but not as common as they once were.

To learn much more about the different types of breast cancer radiation therapy visit AllAboutRadiationTreaments.com where you'll find this and much more, including the effects of radiation therapy, and other radiation treatments.

Prostate Cancer - Early Diagnosis is Key

FACT: More than one in six men will get Prostate Cancer in his lifetime. In the state of South Carolina alone, more than 3,300 men were diagnosed with this disease in 2007. Studies also show that African-American men are more than twice as likely as any other ethnic group to die from cancer of the prostate. Experts believe that this is due to African American men being diagnosed with a more developed stage of the disease.

Dr. Augustine M. Boateng, board certified urologist explains that today, cancer of the prostate is the most common cancer in men over 50. Dr. Boateng further states that "fortunately, we have seen an increase in early prostate cancer diagnosis ever since the development of the PSA blood test. And listen guys, early detection is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

The PSA is a blood test that measures the level of prostate-specific antigen (this is a prostate-produced chemical in your blood). Dr. Boateng explains that while it is normal to have a certain level of PSA in your bloodstream, elevated levels could indicate a prostate infection, enlargement of the prostate or cancer. If you do have unusually high PSA levels, your physician will perform certain other diagnostic exams to identify the cause.

SYMPTOMS

POINT ~ Early in the disease there are no specific symptoms; many men are often unaware of their condition.

REMEMBER ~ A PSA screening can detect the disease before symptoms appear; early detection is essential for successful treatment.

Symptoms may include the following:

* Urinary difficulty

* Reduced or interrupted urine flow

* Erectile dysfunction

* Frequent pain in the lower back, hips or upper thighs

* Frequent urination, especially at night

* Pain or burning with urination

* Blood in urine or semen

These symptoms may indicate other conditions as well as a benign (non-cancerous) enlargement of the prostate. Contact your doctor immediately if you should experience any of these symptoms.

The Small and Mighty Acai Berry Fruit and Colon Cancer

There are many food supplements available in the market today, the manufacturers are praising to high heavens, the efficacy of their products in preventing colon cancer and are using the internet and other media to widen their advertisement but so far none of them could compete with the power of acai berries. Acai berry is the fruit of the acai palm tree which grows in the Brazilian Amazon forest. It is just as small as a purple marble or a grape but it is a mighty fruit; and has been acclaimed as the super food for its contributions to physical health and wellness.

One of its benefits is its propensity in preventing colon cancer. Considered as the number two cause of death in the United States at present, colon cancer has become the center of researches to find what could be its cure; but prevention is much better than cure so we can look at the potentials of this fruit berry.

Acai berry is teeming with antioxidant which eliminates the free radicals in your system because these molecules or toxins coming from the pollutants around you cause diseases and damage your DNA.

Everyday, you encounter pollutants in your environment such as smoke, pesticides, sprays, insecticides and others; they are also in the food that you eat such as meat, sugar, dairy products and others. They get into your body as free radicals or toxins and start attacking the body cells which can lead to cancer. The natural antioxidants inside the body are supplemented by those from the acai and they strengthen the cells and battle to flash off these toxins from the system. By cleansing the systems from these harmful toxins, the antioxidant prevents cancer cells from developing.

When you look at an acai berry, it looks just like an ordinary berry, it is small and round; but when you stop to consider its benefits, especially in preventing colon cancer, you will realize that it is a mighty fruit and it truly deserves the title of super berry.

Looking for a way to flush the pounds and lose weight the natural way? Acai berry is known as one of the world's superfoods. Harvested for its rejuvinating and detoxifying properties, you can never go wrong with this fruit.

Lose weight and stay healthy naturally with Acai berry now.

Prostate Problem Symptoms - Want to Know Some?

A lot of men consult prostate cancer question and answer forums to clear their presumptions or even to know the prostate problem symptoms. Let us first know the background of prostate cancer and the parts of the body that will be affected if one has prostate cancer. This is actually a disease affecting the prostate. The prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system. When one gets prostate cancer, there is prostate mutation.

When this happens prostate multiply uncontrollably. These cells which have multiplied will spread from the prostate to the other parts of the body. In most case, the cells spread to the bones and lymph nodes. Usually, when a man is affected by this the symptoms are that he will experience difficulty in urinating and worse is there is erectile dysfunction. What is difficult with this type of cancer is that there are no early signs of prostate cancer in men.

Commonly, people will consult a doctor when the disease is already severe. This is a bad practice. There should be a regular check up in order for one to know his health condition. As stated earlier, there are no early symptoms. The following are experienced when cancer cells have spread beyond the prostate: during night time, the persons urinates frequently; while urinating, there is difficulty in starting or stopping the urinary stream; weak or interrupted urinary stream; painful sensation during urination or ejaculation; and there is blood in urine or semen. However, research tells us that these are not symptoms of the cancer itself. They are only the symptoms of the blockage from the cancer growth within the prostate and surrounding tissues.

Signs of prostate cancer in men are evident when it is advanced already. The symptoms include: dull, incessant deep pain or stiffness in the pelvis, lower back, ribs or upper thighs; arthritic pain in the bones of those areas; loss of weight and appetite, fatigue, nausea, or vomiting.

Generally, prostate cancer develops in men over the age of fifty. This is the most common cancer in men. Since there are no early symptoms, prevention is the best antidote. There are two main factors affecting the prostate, these are genetics and diet. The former runs in the blood but the latter can be adjusted or maintained. Eating the right kind and the right amount of food still leads to good health. Hence, proper diet aids people to have minimal ailments.

On the other hand, to detect this, physical examination, PSA, or biopsy are recommended. If one is diagnosed with it, he has to undergo further tests like CT scans and bone scans.

Here are pieces of advice to those who have prostate cancer, first, never take medicines without doctor's prescriptions. Yes, there are new cancer drugs but these have to be taken under doctors advice. Second, if you find out that you have prostate problem symptoms, consult a doctor as to what to do and what medicines you need to take.

Breast Cancer - Alternative Cancer Treatment

The chest holds the breasts. In general, the breast cancers affect most of the women in the world. Breast cancer develops as a result of abnormal growth in the cells in the inner breast, or due to some abnormal changes produced in the tissues connecting the breast.

The breasts are made up of fat, glands and soft tissues. In addition to them lobes are present, which are further divided into lobules and they extend up to the milk glands. Very small ducts running from tiny glands are connected together and end at the nipple. It is in these ducts the breast cancer occurs, and this is called ductal cancer.

Cancers occurring in the lobules are called lobule cancer. It has very less probability when compared to the above mentioned one.

The best treatment therapies for the breast cancer are;

Surgery- it is the final treatment on the breast cancer performed by the medical practitioners depending upon the stage of the disease.

Chemotherapy- it is a systematic treatment. This treatment disturbs the whole system of the body. The advantage about this therapy is the drugs used in this method; they interact with the rapidly dividing cells and thus destroying them. The demerits are, it affects the whole body cell system, normally many cells in our body tend to divide rapidly, but unfortunately the drugs destroy them too.

Radiation therapy- The radiations are passed on the breast and the cancer cells are destroyed. It is easy to tolerate and produces no side effects.

Alternative therapies for breast cancers are; relaxation, meditation, megavitamins and positive image for the patients. There are some herbal treatments available too.

Anand suradha is an author living in India. He is an expert in alternative breast cancer treatments and you can learn a lot about it from his website alternative cancer treatment.

Bowel Cancer and a Positive Attitude

We've all heard about the power of positive thinking. Having a positive attitude and so on.

Some of us will have found that these clichés are indeed true. Positive thinking can change your life dramatically. For many people their positive attitude has carried them through many adversities. For some, its made them rich believing in themselves and what they can achieve by being positive and pushing on regardless of what's put in their path. There are many paths in our lives where a positive attitude has triumphed over what might seem insurmountable obstacles.

In case you were wondering what this has to do with bowel cancer and indeed any cancer, it's this same positive attitude of the patient that's important in the recovery process and in fighting the disease itself. The mind plays a significant part in the healing process of cancer and time and again its been shown that patients with a positive attitude fare better than those that give up or are overly pessimistic.

The power of the mind can be demonstrated by such occurrences as the pointing of the bone by Aboriginals at a member of the tribe, who has done something wrong, and is to be punished. There have been authenticated cases (1953) where this has occurred and the victim has simply died over a short period of time with no medical explanation. (Sources: John Godwin, Unsolved: The World of the Unknown, pp. 163-76; Ronald Rose, Living Magic, pp. 30-36):
Even though this is a somewhat morbid demonstration of the power of the mind it does show how powerful it is. Powerful enough for a person to believe he is cursed to die, and does so.

Could it now be argued that you could use the power of the mind to not die and to survive your cancer despite the odds? My research has shown that you can't afford to take this literally. I don't think it can be said, that if you have a positive attitude you won't die from cancer. That depends on a number of other factors but what I do think you can say is, having a positive attitude helps enormously in surviving.

The cancer patients I interviewed for my book, who are long term survivors, have all taken a positive attitude toward their treatment and outcome. None of them were ready to lie down and die just because they had cancer. They had the courage and the fortitude to take on this disease and beat it.

I don't think many of us can say how we would feel if diagnosed with bowel cancer. It would certainly take the wind out of your sails primarily, but having talked to these people who have survived I think, after my initial shock, I would be doing the same as they did. I would be positive about the outcome and would let nothing stand in my way in beating this terrible disease to live a long and happy life.

Ways to Detect Colorectal Cancer

Colon or Colorectal cancer, is one of the leading contributors to cancer deaths in the US. This cancer, just like other cancers, must be caught early so that you can have it properly treated. Although the tests may be difficult and uncomfortable for you, it is most wise for you to be able to know early if you have this cancer so you'll be able to do the necessary actions for you to survive.

Calculate the risk. As with many health issues, colon and rectal cancers can have a family tendency. To find out your risk level for this cancer, you should examine the medical history of your immediate family members. Have any of your family members been victims of colon or rectal cancers previously? How old were they when they were diagnosed? Watch out for inflammatory bowel disease which is a sign of cancer. It is imperative if you have experienced any issues with your colon at any time in your life to have regular screenings done by your doctor.

Be conscientious of your bowel movement patterns. Your feces can show if you are at risk of getting colorectal cancer. Take note of the frequency and consistency of your bowel movements. If anything arises make an appointment with your physician right away if you notice any changes in your bowels. In addition, keep an eye out for any rectal bleeding. This might be an early indication of a developing a cancer.

Do not ignore stomach cramps. One other method of detecting colorectal cancer is by paying attention to your abdomen. Stomach cramps and stomach irritation are indications that your bowels have something to communicate. Schedule an appointment with your physician to have a rectal screening immediately.

Make sure that you receive the appropriate screening. Aside from keeping tabs on the telltale signs of this cancer, you may still need to get a colon screening done to be able to know for sure. Your doctor may suggest a Fecal count and sigmoidoscopy as one of your 3 options, an annual fecal occult blood test along with a flexible sigmoidoscopy every 5 years.

A standard screening method used to detect colorectal cancer is colonoscopy. They are looking for lesions of the abnormal nature that could be cancerous, with a tiny camera inserted in through your rectum into your cleansed colon. Typically, these will be performed at intervals of ten years.

Another option is the double-contact barium enema. While it is unpleasant, it functions to enable detection of colon and rectal malignancies. Your doctor will do this procedure every 5-10 years.

As a rule, screening should begin at 50. You may want to get it checked out earlier if you've had this in your family history. Early detected Colorectal cancer is already half-treated.

Leukemia Cancer - Everything You Need to Know

Leukemia is generally considered and known as blood cancer, where as if considered in its real terms leukemia is a cancer of the white blood cells and the platelets. These platelets actually help blood to clot. Additionally when the white blood cells reduce in amount they actually leave the immune system unlocked for attack and the patient sometimes die of a very usual illness like flu. In general the deficiency of normal white cells impairs the body's ability to struggle against infections. A shortage of platelets results in bruising and easy bleeding whenever there is a need of clot to stop the flow of blood.

All kinds of various acute or chronic diseases of leukemia are dangerous. Acute leukemia being a swiftly succeeding disease affects typically cells that are embryonic or primitive (which means the cells that have not yet fully developed or differentiated from the others). These not fully formed cells thus cannot achieve their standard utility. These cells are described as "nonfunctional" because they do not work like normal cells. They also number out the usual normal healthy cells in the marrow, resulting in a decrease in the number of new healthy normal cells made in the marrow. These later results in low red cell counts which is a typical form of anemia.

On the other hand chronic leukemia develops gradually, and allows the development of larger amounts of more developed cells. In broader perspective, these more grown-up cells can achieve some of their typical functionality but due to the increase in the number of cells like white blood cells the blood flow may slow down and result in severe anemia.

The leukemia is categorized in to four basic categories which are as follows:

• Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML)
• Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)
• Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)
• Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)

For acute leukemia following are the signs and symptoms of leukemia:

• Fatigue or tiredness
• Shortness of breath during physical activity
• Sluggish curing of cuts and excess bleeding
• Mild fever or night sweats
• Black-and-blue spots (bruises) for no evident cause
• Pinhead-size red spots under the skin
• Pale skin
• Low white cell counts
• Aches in bones or joints

As far as chronic leukemia is concerned people with CLL or CML may not have any symptoms. Some patients learn they have CLL or CML after a blood test as part of a usual checkup. Occasionally, a person with CLL may see enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, armpit or groin and go to the doctor. The person may feel exhausted or short of breath or have frequent infections, if the CLL is more severe. In these cases, a blood test may show an increase in the lymphocyte count.

A comprehensive blood count is utilized to make a diagnosis of leukemia. This blood examination may confirm high or low point of white cells and show leukemic cells within the blood. Sometimes, number of platelet and red cell are fairly low. Bone marrow tests like aspiration and biopsy are often carried out to verify the analysis and to glance for any chromosome irregularities. All these tests spot the leukemia and its cell category. These tests must be continued after regular intervals after treatment commences to gauge how sound the healing is.

Can Pomegranate Juice Slow Down Prostate Cancer?

How can you imagine pomegranate juice could slow down prostate cancer? There is research to suggest this is so. You can find all sorts of studies for various things, what matter is if it works. Prostate problems seem to be more common that ever before. Read more to find out how to reverse this trend.

With over 186,000 men diagnosed last year (2008) about 28,000 died from this disease. That means a death rate of about 15% is derived from this disease according to the National Cancer Institute.

What Can You Do?

There seems to be no specific cause beyond just diet, medication, toxins, fats and other lifestyle issues that accumulate stress on the prostate. An enlarged prostate creates other problems for the bladder and kidneys by not being able to release fluids, causing UTI and other complications. So, taking care of your prostate early on can avoid any further damage to your prostate and other organs.

Pomegranate juice slows down prostate cancer because it has anti-oxidation qualities, this decreases plaque build-up and allows the prostate to function normally. Even when traditional treatments fail pomegranate juice can continue to benefit your prostate.

Other Factors

The cumulative affect over time seems to hit males in their fifties with this problem. The reason for death is generally procrastination, letting it spread to the point where it's to late. Lack of exercise can lead to toxic build-up and your prostate can be a easy place for this overload of toxins to reside. Pomegranate juice has properties to help with these oxidants which slows the progression of prostate problems. Is this a cure? No, but it is a help along with other things you can do for yourself.

To get more information about your prostate and treatments go to the Prostate Cancer Info, find out what else can help you prevent the spread of this disease. For other cancer information go to Cancer Network, there you will find information about other forms of cancer. Let information not fear create your future.

Obesity and the Risk of Breast Cancer

Obesity is a famous risk factor for breast cancer after menopause, but it shows to keep women from raising the disease earlier in life as well.

Being overweight or obese has been connected to menstrual cycle irregularities and other medical states that restrict ovulation. Less ovulation denotes lower circulating levels of the breast-cancer- supporting hormones estradiol and progesterone. The idea has been that obesity assists look after against breast cancer before menopause, but not after it, by decrease circulating levels of these sex hormones.

Obesity remains one of the strongest risk factors for postmenopausal breast cancer. Approximately 80% of the diseases are identified in women who are 50 and over. Obese women might be more probable to expand the disease mainly since their bodies create more estrogen than thin women do.

New research advocates that the upsurge in its risk faced by obese postmenopausal women might mainly be because of higher levels of estrogens circulating in their bodies. High levels of estrogen are recognized to rouse certain types of breast cancer tumors to grow up and expand.

The study, issued in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, demonstrates that the average attention of estrogens in obese women was between 50% and 219% higher than in thin women, and the risk of breast cancer augmented by approximately 18% with every growth in body mass index.

Experts suggest that people establish customs of healthy eating and physical activity early in life to put off overweight and obesity. Those who are already overweight or obese are recommended to keep away from added weight gain, and to lose weight by way of a low-calorie diet and exercise.

Preventing overweight and obesity could potentially be a factor to lower levels of breast cancer risk. Many factors contribute to obesity including genetics, behavior, environment, and culture. However, recent agreement is that the continuing epidemic shows to stalk from current alterations in our environment encouraging overeating and discouraging physical activity. Surplus calories used but not applied eventually cause weight gain.

The Lymph System and Cancer

The lymphatic, or lymph, system of the body is the main portion of the body devoted to fighting off infections and staving off disease. The system works through a network of vein-like vessels as well as clusters of organs known as the lymph nodes. The entire lymph system is important for immunity but also plays a role in cancer.

Unlike the blood stream, the lymph system has a dual role in cancer cases. Not only is it important for fighting off the disease by producing white blood cells and a variety of other important devices in a body's attempt to kill off the cells, but it also is one of the most common ways for cancer to spread to the other areas and organs of the body through metastasis. The bloodstream plays a role in metastasis but not in the first.

Cancer can start in the lymphatic system. When this occurs, it is known as lymphoma. When cancer doesn't start in the lymphatic system, like breast cancer, lung cancer, or pancreatic cancer, the cancer cells of that type or location can spread or metastasize through the lymph system quite easily. Once the cells make their way into the lymph system, it is much harder not only to fight the original source but also to completely cure a person.

Fortunately, the lymph system gives an individual some warnings signs that there may be a tumor somewhere in the body. The biggest clue is that the lymph nodes are enlarged. While this may not seem like a big clue, there are lymph nodes located close to the surface in the neck which can be felt without any real expertise.

Enlarged lymph nodes may also be a sign that cancer has started somewhere and spread to the lymph system. The cells in a tumor are bent on total domination and so easily break off from a tumor. They then are easily picked up by the lymph and are then able to go anywhere in the body. Breast cancer, which is a commonly spread cancer, is able to set up colonies throughout the body by its easy access to the lymph nodes located in the arm pits as well as under the sternum.

If a person notices that his or her lymph nodes are swollen, it is somewhat easy to determine if they are swollen due to cancer. A simple biopsy will determine if they are swollen due to an illness in the body or if they are swollen due to cancer.

The mesothelioma attorneys of Williams Kherkher realize the difficulty of detecting mesothelioma at an early stage and so have familiarized themselves with the stages and progression of the disease.

Feelings of pain while defecating should also be given attention to as it can also be a sign of a developing tumor.

Bowel cancer, also known by its other two names, colorectal cancer and colon cancer, describes cancerous growths that stem from the colon, rectum and appendix. Most cases begin with adenomatous polyps found in the colon. Although these mushroom-like growths are usually benign, they can sometimes develop into cancer if they're left unchecked.

If ever gastrointestinal bleeding is present, then melena or black stool may also be present. Black stool with a tar like appearance implies that the malignant growth is located somewhere at the beginning of the large bowel. If the tumor grows large enough you may even experience bowel obstruction. This may present itself as constipation, abdominal pains and vomiting, sometimes even without nausea.

Some bowel cancer symptoms may be a bit odd in comparison, and almost unrelated. They are, however, an ever greater cause for concern because it means that the disease is most likely spreading. A sudden pallor to the skin, fatigue and frequent heart palpitations could mean that the tumor has already caused iron deficiency anemia.

Diagnosis of colon cancer is usually done through a colonoscopy followed by a surgical procedure and possibly even chemotherapy when malignant growths are found. In order avoid having to go through anything more dire than these signs, go to your doctor as soon as you suspect that you may be experiencing bowel cancer symptoms. Catching this disease early can mean the difference of life or death.

The Role of Oncologist For Breast Cancer

Oncology is certainly the most quickly growing sub-specialty in the field of medicine, and breast cancer is one of the most crucial problems of oncology. It is the principal cause of death of women in lots of countries and is really a multidisciplinary problem with no geographic constraints.

It is the most usual cancer of women in the US, affecting approximately one in eight as long as their life span. It affects men, but it is rare, accounting for less than 1 percent of all cases. In 2007, roughly 200,000 women and 1,600 men in the US had the disease. As a person ages, the possibility of getting breast cancer rises.

To treat breast cancer well, many medical professionals with various specialties are required. Every diagnosis is distinctive and treated in a different way. A number of women might visit a cancer center where a group of physicians who focus in breast disease (radiologist, oncologist, surgeon, etc.) collaborate to settle on treatment. Other women are referred to cancer specialists by their principal care physician (family practitioner, gynecologist).

Medical professionals engaged in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment might include: Gynecologist or OB/GYN, Radiologist, Oncologist (general, medical, radiation, surgical), Nurse/oncology nurse specialist, Oncology social worker, Surgeon, Radiation therapy oncologist, Radiation therapy technologist, Radiation therapy physicist, Pathologist, and Reconstructive/plastic surgeon.

An oncologist is a medical doctor who trains in the diagnosis and also treatment of cancer. If a radiologist identifies breast cancer, a woman might be referred to an oncologist for treatment. Medical oncologists concentrate in the use of chemotherapy and other drugs to care for cancer. Radiation oncologists focus in the usage of x-rays and other radiation techniques to eradicate tumors.

Prostate Cancer Causes and Treatment

Prostate cancer occurs due to the sudden and faster growth of the cells in prostate gland. This gland is located in the bottom of the urinary bladder near the rectum. Prostate gland is the size of a walnut. It is the place where the semen is produced and stored. Ultimately it plays a vital role in human reproduction. If the cells in the prostate gland show a faster and improper growth, which we call a prostate cancer, the patient may undergo severe urinary problems.

The term cancer doesn't mean a sun sign here as both the disease and sun sign are referred by the same name. The cancer disease occurs because of the improper and sudden growth of cells in a particular part of the body.

The prostate cancer occurs most of the time to older persons. In sense, with the increase in age of a person, maximum is the occurrence of this disease. A small consolation is that the prostate gland cancer is so slow to cause death to a patient. If the patient is above 80 years, there is no need to give any medical aid to him, he will die before the cancer spreads completely all over his body, it takes such a long time to spread.

Normally, if the cancer hasn't spread anywhere outside the gland, there is a possibility of saving the person. On the other hand, if it spreads outside of the body, the medical practitioners have to do a lot of hard work to treat the cancer.

As an alternative cancer treating method, if the cancer is found to be inside the gland, there is no need to remove the entire gland by performing a surgery in order to increase life cycle of a patient. There are 3 types of treatment performed;

First being the Antrogen-deprivation therapy.

Second being external radiation therapy, by passing the radiations in the gland affected by cancer, the radiation beam shrinks and destroys the tumors present in the gland.

The third, being the entire removal of prostate gland by surgery, this method of treatment is called, Radical prostectomy but it makes the patient completely impotent.

Breast Cancer - Chemotherapy

Breast cancer occurs due to the improper and sudden growth of cells in the ducts present in the breast. The growth of these cells turn out to be tumors, and hence results in breast cancer. One of the methods to cure breast cancer is the chemotherapy treatment. In this type of treatment anti-cancer drugs are passed into the body to destroy the cancer cells.

If the cancer cells haven't spread from where they are originated, chemotherapy could be used to reduce the risk of infected cells recurring again in the part. It is more effective when given to women to whom the infected cells spread to all parts of the body.

Chemotherapy method is performed by combination of ant-cancer drugs. The drugs can be either given orally or by injection. The drugs just travel through the bloodstream and destroy all the cancer cells present in the all parts of the body. There are so many drugs available for the chemotherapy treatment. Normally this method is given in cycles, it may last for seven or eight months or may be a year depending upon the drugs used.

There are 3 major types of chemotherapy treatment employed for breast cancer; Neoadjuvant chemotherapy, adjuvant chemotherapy, palliative chemotherapy.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is employed before the surgery to reduce the size of tumors. It makes the surgery to be performed easily.

Adjuvant chemotherapy is performed after the surgery. The main purpose here is to minimize the risk of recurrence of cancer cells.

Palliative chemotherapy is used to control the growth of the cancer cells that has spread all parts of the body.

Colon Cleansing - Cancer Prevention

Cancer of the colon is a statistical probability that many in western countries may have to face. Also known as colorectal and large bowel cancer, it is the third commonest form of cancer. There is a diagnostic incidence of approximately 100 a day in the United Kingdom. In 2008, over 100,000 colonic cancers were diagnosed in the US. Sufferers are predominantly from the developed world.

The survival rate for colon cancer, currently approximating 50%, improves with early diagnosis. Although the mortality rate has decreased in recent years, probably due to better colon screening programmes that have allowed early detection and timely treatment, it remains high enough to warrant consideration as a dangerous threat to longevity.

Cancer is the process and consequence of cells dividing and multiplying uncontrollably and at a faster than normal rate. The mass of tissue formed by the growth and collection of those abnormal cells is known as a tumour.

A tumour that enlarges but stays in one place is referred to as benign.

When those cells begin and continue to invade surrounding organs or break away from their original site to spread to other organs via the blood and lymph systems and grow in the same uncontrollable way, the tumour is then categorized as malignant. This process of abnormal cell propagation is known as metastasis. Malignant tumours are very often seriously life-threatening, causing death, sometimes very soon after diagnosis.

Screening and prevention are crucial in the drive to reduce colorectal cancer mortality rates. Tumours have metastasized in one fifth of cases at the time of diagnosis.

Signs and symptoms.

Blood and mucus in the stools.
Persistent diarrhea or constipation.
Unexplained abdominal pain or swelling.
Weight loss.
Fatigue.

Although there may be other causes for the above signs and symptoms, it would be sensible to seek medical advice to elucidate causality.

Causes.

There is a statistical age correlation. 80% of cases are in the 60 + group.

It is generally believed that diet plays a contributory role in bowel cancer. For example, research has indicated that excessive consumption of red meat may increase the chance of developing colon cancer. When inside the bowels, a pigment that colours red meat breaks down into chemicals that can damage the DNA in cells lining the intestinal tract. Those damaged cells may then proliferate in a way that causes the formation of tumours. On the other hand, a diet consisting of oily fish, fruits, vegetables and fibre-rich foodstuff reduces the likelihood of developing colon cancer.

Heavy smoking and alcohol-drinking are also thought to be possible causes.

Obesity and being overweight are among the suspected culprits.

Those from a family with a history of bowel cancer and having previously suffered from polyps seem to fall in the higher risk group.

Lack of exercising appears to be linked to the incidence of the disease.

Inflammation of the lining of the intestinal tract is suspected of predisposing it to carcinoma. Conditions such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease may increase the risk of developing bowel cancer.

Treatment.

Colon cancer is treated by :-
• surgery - the most used method,
• chemotherapy - a post-surgical and palliative option and
• radiotherapy - in selected cases

Screening.

The results from screening programmes to facilitate early detection have been encouraging. There is an 80% chance of treatment being successful when the disease is discovered early. The risk of fatality is reduced by 16% by having regular bowel checks. The U.K's National Bowel Screening Programme, started in 2006, aims to offer all those in the at-risk age-group a Faecal Occult Blood (FOB) test by 2009.

Sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy are other detection and diagnostic tools that should be promptly considered when there is the slightest concern about the healthy functions of the bowel, particularly if any of the above signs and symptoms is experienced.

Prevention.

Preventing cancer from starting in the first place clearly has to be high on the list of priorities.

We can all make a very significant contribution to reducing the risks of becoming a victim of colon cancer. Thus, starting a healthier diet, taking up exercise, paying attention to our weight and waist line, reviewing drinking and smoking habits are steps that we can action. The sooner they are considered and practiced, the lesser the risks of succumbing to carcinoma of the bowel.

Colon cleansing.

It has been said that death starts with an unhealthy colon.

A colon that is not evacuating properly becomes impacted with decaying matter. Harmful toxins accumulate in the bowels and are absorbed into the blood stream. Parasite infestation, infection, inflammation, ulceration and cancerous tumours are other possible developments within a dysfunctional colon.

A healthy colon is absolutely essential to prevent ailments that may create a medium for the development of cancer. Inflammation of the lining of the intestines has been linked to tumour formation.

Colon cleansing is therefore certainly worth including in a preventative plan for good colonic and general health.

Used by the Egyptians over a millennium ago, colon cleansing is still valued today as a detox treatment that rids the colon of toxins that can be absorbed in the blood stream, parasites that can infest and attack the lining of the intestinal tract, mucus that can have pathogenic effects and decomposing matter that has overstayed within its walls causing constipation.

Colon cleansing, as well as contributing to the prevention of bowel cancer, may also be beneficial to constipation, diarrhea, weight loss, effective peristalsis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, diverticulitis, bloating, flatulence, indigestion, halitosis, hypertension, cholesterol control, auto-intoxication, sinus problems, backache, headaches, fatigue, hemorrhoids, insomnia, irritability and skin conditions.

The detoxifying effects of colon cleansing produce a feeling of well-being and vitality as more energy is derived from the better absorption of food nutrients through the cleaner intestinal walls.

Colon Cancer Symptoms - Finding Out If You Have Colorectal Cancer

The only way to know if you have colorectal cancer is a biopsy of the colon or rectal area that appears cancerous. These tests can be performed by a gastrointerologist or a colon and rectal surgeon. What are the symptoms that should send you to one of these specialists for testing?

Often the first symptom is bright red rectal bleeding. This does not always mean that you have colon cancer but you should seek medical care for this symptom as colorectal cancers often bleed. If the cancer is far from the rectum instead of bright red bleeding, a sign of colon cancer is dark, tarry stools, another symptom that should send you straight to the doctor.

Bleeding into the intestine results in a low blood count or anemia. A symptom of anemia is lack of energy. In any unexplained anemia the diagnosis of colon cancer must be considered.

New onset constipation is another symptom. As the cancer grows it begins to block the intestine so stools cannot pass. With certain types of colon cancers, diarrhea can also be a symptom. Diarrhea that does not resolve in a few days must also be investigated.

When the intestinal tract is partially or completely blocked, a feeling of fullness, decrease in appetite, and weight loss can be a result. These are symptoms of colon cancer until proven otherwise.

Bright red rectal bleeding, dark tarry stools, fatigue, constipation, continuous diarrhea, weight loss, lacks of appetite, and a feeling of fullness can all be symptoms. It is important to seek medical help if you have any or especially a combination of these symptoms as they can be colon cancer symptoms. The only way to know that you have colorectal cancer is to see a doctor who can diagnose the cause of the symptoms.

Facts on Leukemia and What to Do About It

There are many facts known about leukemia and if someone is dealing with the problem it's these facts they need to know. Like all cancers, leukemia happens for a reason as its not some mysterious illness that science can't fathom. For instance it's exceptionally rare in S.E. Asia but is prevalent in all western developed countries.

Some of the facts that have been linked to leukemia are high voltage power lines and people living close to these have a much higher risk factor. The chemical formaldehyde that is commonly found in our homes has also been linked to it. Food items associated with leukemia are aspartame, the artificial sweetener in many soft drinks and chewing gum. Sodium nitrite is another; the additive is used in luncheon meats. Other meats that contain sodium nitrite are sausages, hot dogs, hamburgers, bacon, ham, and any meats that have been processed.

Foods that are known to help leukemia patients are turmeric, the root vegetable that is the yellow colouring used in curry powder, bananas, oranges as well as grape seed extract. Also vitamin A which is most abundant in carrots, broccoli, squash and spinach. As with most nutrients it is always best to get them from natural sources and not in supplement form. In other words eat grapes, that is grapes with seed in them and buy turmeric fresh, grate it and use it in cooking.

There are many facts known about all cancers but unfortunately today our medical system is more interested in treating these different cancers instead of providing us with these known facts so we can avoid the problem in the first place. We don't have cancer prevention today; we only have expensive toxic treatments that are not very effective. Remember there is nothing in our 3 main treatments that will stop the return of cancer.

All cancers including leukemia have many known causes and these are; nutritional deficiencies, our sedentary lifestyle and the chemicals we encounter everyday. Leukemia is cancer of the blood; the body has lost control and makes too many white blood cells so why would it be any different to any other cancer. Anyone with leukemia needs to address all these issues, that is eat food in its natural state, get some exercise and be wary of all chemicals we use in our homes these days.

There is no such thing as a single cause for cancer, all cancers have multiple causes so the way to successfully overcome leukemia is to address the underlying causes and a change of diet is a great start. A strict natural diet is of paramount importance.

How and When to Have the Latest Treatment on Prostate Cancer

Prostate is a chestnut shaped gland within the male reproductive system. It is located just below the bladder. It is derived from the Greek word "prostates", meaning to stand before. It was Herophilus, an anatomist who called it the prostate because according to him, it stands before the testes. Prostate cancer is one of the major causes of the deaths in men. This fact gave rise to many questions and answers. Further, this fact leads to looking or searching for the latest treatment on prostate cancer.

Several doctors conducted a study and is still continuing to study to find the latest treatment and they all agree that the treatment depends on the stage on the said cancer in a particular person. There are four (I-IV) stages of prostate cancer. The one which is easy to cure of course is Stage I because as cancer progresses, the cancer cells grow within the prostate, then it grows even to the outer layer of the prostate into the nearby tissue, and finally to the lymph nodes or other parts of the body.

Since there is no early warning signs, usually this cancer is accidentally found during surgery for other causes. It cannot even be recognized during rectal examination and is not visible by imaging or x-ray. One helpful aid of treating prostate cancer is the use of Gleason staging system. This system is used to evaluate the prognosis of men with prostate cancer. It is incorporated into a strategy of staging. This predicts prognosis and aids as a guide therapy. The score depends on the stage which the cancer is categorized. Moreover, the score is based upon the microscopic appearance.

The features of Gleason scores are the following as described in wikipedia:

• Grade 1 - The cancerous prostate closely resembles normal prostate tissue. The glands are small, well-formed, and closely packed.
• Grade 2 - The tissue still has well-formed glands, but they are larger and have more tissue between them.
• Grade 3 - The tissue still has recognizable glands, but the cells are darker. At high magnification, some of these cells have left the glands and are beginning to invade the surrounding tissue.
• Grade 4 - The tissue has few recognizable glands. Many cells are invading the surrounding tissue
• Grade 5 - The tissue does not have recognizable glands. There are often just sheets of cells throughout the surrounding tissue.

When the Gleason score is already identified, what then is the latest treatment on prostate cancer? In a capsule, these are brachytherapy, chemotherapy, cryosurgery, cryotheraphy, hormone therapy, radiation therapy, prostatectomy, and watchful waiting. Each of this however has side effects but it is up to the patient's doctor to advise which is advantageous on the part of the patient and the patient's immediate family. The earlier the signs are detected the better. For a simple reason that the earlier it is diagnosed the easier the medical process is undergone and the later it is known the more complex the treatment becomes.

Dr. Arnold P. Nerenberg, PhD, is an internationally renowned clinical psychologist, motivational speaker and educator. He is also a prostate cancer survivor that is why he wants to help each man who has a problem with their prostate. Visit http://askdrnerenberg.com for more information.

Everyone Could Be Potential Suspect For Colon Cancer

Colorectal cancer early screening is recommended at more frequent intervals and starting at a younger age for those at increased risk due to hereditary syndromes. Due to the fact that germline mutations are present in every cell, it is essential to be aware of the higher risk for extra colonic tumors in these syndromes, but each has a distinct spectrum of risk in other organs.

According to the American Gastroenterological Association has published a position statement and guidelines on genetic testing for hereditary colon cancer. The integration of genetic testing into clinical practice provides multiple benefits to individuals in families with histories of colorectal cancer. These benefits include earlier detection of colorectal neoplasms and prevention of cancer, removal of patient doubt, greater choice of surgical and other intervention options, elimination of unnecessary screening, and provision of information for planning family and career decisions. In hereditary colon cancer, genetic testing has been shown to be cost-effective.

Testing for occult blood in the stool is a proven cost-effective solution for reducing colon cancer mortality. However, this method has limited sensitivity because distinct early stage tumors do not bleed, and many cases of false positive impact because trace amounts of blood may be present without the source being polyps or cancer. More direct methods of testing for tumor cells through mutant DNA shed in stool are now being developed. These methods test for mutations in the APC gene and other genes that trigger colon tumors and nonapoptotic human DNA that is a general feature of cancer.

Inside the gut, pathological consequence of chronic inflammation include epithelial ulceration, villus atrophy, crypt hypertrophy, crypt abscesses, granuloma formation and fibrosis. Ample evidence exists implicating the involvement of events of both immune and non immune origin. With the distinctive exception of celiac disease, where the instigating antigen is wheat gluten, the initiating events or antigen for most severe gastrointestinal infection remains to be colorectal cancer screening is recommended at more regular intervals and beginning at a younger age for those at higher risk due to hereditary syndromes. The germline mutations are present in every cell, it is important to be aware of the increased risk for extra colonic tumors in these syndromes, but each has a different spectrum of risk in other organs.

Inflammation deep inside the gut possibly develop as an effect of interactions between somatic intestinal cells, such as fibroblasts, and effector cells of the innate and adaptive arms of the immune system. These interactions are mediated by both soluble factors and cell-to-cell contact. Agonizing inflammation is either resolved or develops into chronic inflammatory reactions, which can trigger in fibrosis and loss of function. Unless it is already too late cleansing colon or colon cleanse are solutions that can prolong the overall health of the colon.

In conclusion, the colon is the sewage system in the body, maintaining its optimum health is very crucial to longevity of a person's lifespan. Colorectal cleansing can bring many benefits such as ensuring the absorption of consumed nutrients is operating at prime level. Without cleansing colon, the walls of the colon are covered by harmful & non-beneficial fecal matter that been entrapped for months & years. That concludes to lower colorectal efficiency in absorbing the required nutrients for the body needs. Colon health should not be ignored & it's often not a high priority in general society perhaps due to lack of awareness. Prevention is ultimately better than a cure; ensure your colorectal is in a healthy condition by considering colon detox .

Chemotherapy is the more frequent treatment employed to care for colon cancer. During this therapy physicians will settle on what kind of medicines that might be employed to help kill off the cancer cells and to maintain it from distributing. There are many several distinct medicines that can be employed - but only your physician will recognise which ones to utilize.

Adrucil

This is a type of medication that is used to keep the cancer cells from growing. This is employed to address not simply colon cancer - but likewise breast, rectum, stomach, and head cancers.

Breast Cancer and Diet - Realistic Considerations

The relationship between breast cancer and diet is becoming more defined as far as preventing cancer. However, its role in improving survivability after cancer is discovered is not as clear.

The best tact to take is to live a healthier lifestyle. A healthier body is better equipped to fight off the factors leading to cancer formation and the ravages of cancer after it has become established.

Good Health Foods

Eating a healthy diet for preventing breast cancer (or any cancer) and improving survivability begins with a good breakfast. Whole grains are easy to make and consume in the morning. Good health foods such as whole grains should be consumed in much larger amounts than most people in the United States normally eat.

Whole grains typically offer a large amount of dietary fiber, which is important for a number of reasons. It may help lower estrogen and definitely aids digestion and elimination.

Expelling waste products from your body is important. You don't want poisons from normal bodily functions to remain in your body any longer than they have to. It is well established that allowing these toxins to remain in the bowel longer than normal increases the incidence of bowel cancer. Consuming adequate amounts of dietary fiber helps remove waste products as quickly as possible.

That's a good thing.

Healthful Food Choices

Healthful food choices such as a raw vegetable diet containing spinach, lettuce, onions, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, and various sprouts (bean, alfalfa, etc.) will give you raw food enzymes as well as dietary fiber. Both of these will aid a person wishing to give themselves the best chance of preventing or surviving cancers of all types.

There are also a number of phytochemicals in raw health food that cooking destroys. Eating raw food diets daily or at least a few times per week will help you achieve your goal.

Eating beans on a regular basis will give you additional dietary fiber. These can be easily incorporated into a healthy lunch and/or healthy dinner menu. For example, adding beans to a taco salad comprised mainly of raw vegetables will increase the fiber content of that delicious meal.

Using low fat turkey meat with the grease removed after frying will further enhance your natural healthy diet by reducing fat intake. You should already have turkey meat on hand for making those delicious low fat turkey burgers on the grill. You do have some in your freezer at all times, don't you?

Eating healthy is not difficult. Adopting a healthy diet plan, which will prevent all sorts of health problems, is easy if you put a little thought into it. Often, you can slightly modify the foods you normally eat to make them more "body friendly."

Pre-planning your meals helps tremendously so you can keep the worst foods to eat out of your house while keeping your pantry well stocked with healthful food choices.

Some of the worst foods to eat for preventing breast cancer, increasing cancer survival, or preventing heart and/or vascular disease are trans-fats. You will see trans-fats listed as "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated" on the package.

These altered fats are commonly found in foods that have a long shelf life. Yes, these are fast foods. That is one of the reasons why fast food is bad for you. Avoid trans-fats.

Low Fat Dairy Products

Low fat dairy products appear to be helpful in achieving weight loss or weight maintenance. Less weight carried on the body reduces the risk of cancer to a certain extent. One study has shown that women who ate more dairy products and had higher amounts of calcium in their diet also had higher rates of survival after breast cancer was discovered.

Regularly using yogurt fruit dip recipes or cream cheese fruit dip to add calcium to your diet is a smart tactic. The fruit will add raw food enzymes, fiber, and many beneficial nutrients.

It is a good alternative to a salty, sugary, fat-laden snack containing trans-fats. And it is much tastier.

Breast Cancer And Diet

The relationship between breast cancer and diet is beginning to become apparent.

Shifting your diet to more healthful food choices will benefit you in numerous ways.

Colon Disease - Important Information That You Should Know About

If you haven't realized that colon cancer is amongst the top forms of cancer, you'll want to read this important information about colon disease. To understand more, it is vital to know the normal physiological function of it. The colon is divided into four parts, sigmoid colon, ascending colon, transverse colon, and descending colon.

The vital function of the colon is to eliminate the toxins and processed food substances from the body. This allows the body to remain healthy and free of any radical damages that can occur if these toxic substances are not eliminated.

The most important information related to colon disease is to know whether one is really suffering from it. One of the earliest signs of colon disease is the development of painful or difficult bowel movements. This is the earliest sign that must ring a bell in the mind.

Did you know that increased pressure in the colon can cause development of outpouching of the internal lining of colon? These pockets are known as diverticula and are a great threat as they can cause severe bleeding problems and would need to be treated surgically.

Another important fact that demands our attention right now is that a large number of colon disease cases are reported only when the situation has already progressed into severe stages. It is reported that it occurs only because the earliest signs and symptoms are neglected. Now this makes sense.

Colon disease if left unchecked can progress to colon cancer, which means that a prompt action is required once an individual notes any abnormality in bowel movements. This will help diagnose a condition during its early phase.

Family history is one big factor that makes it a must for the predisposed individuals to get regular colon screening tests. This will ensure that they are not developing any disease process that can lead to a serious colon condition.

All of the above mentioned information is based on basic facts that should be taken into consideration to prevent the development of any colon disease.

Overview of Penile Cancer

Penile cancer is cancer of the penis, the male sex organ, and it is not as common as other forms. This penile disorder can develop in people aged 60 years or older, in people that have phimosis (the foreskin cannot be pulled back over the glans), people that have poor personal hygiene, people that have too many sexual partners and people that consistently use tobacco products. The symptoms of this horrible disease include redness, irritation, or the development of a sore on the penis. Another symptom of it includes the development of a lump on the penis itself. A physical exam, the history of the patient, or a biopsy can be used to determine whether or not a person has it.

The chance of recovery and how to determine the treatment options depends on the prognosis of the disease. The prognosis is determined by the stage of the cancer, the location and the size of the tumor, and whether the cancer was just diagnosed or is recurring. There are three main tests performed to determine how far along the cancer has become and those tests are an MRI, a CT Scan, and an Ultrasound. An MRI, short for magnetic resonance imaging, uses radio waves to make a series of pictures of the patient's body. A CT Scan is a procedure that makes a series of pictures of the body from different angles. An Ultrasound is a procedure in which high energy sound waves are bounced off internal tissues or organs which then make echoes. The echoes then form a picture of the body's tissues known as a sonogram.

There are six common stages of this. Those stages include Stage 0, Stage I, Stage II, Stage III, Stage IV and recurrent cancer. Stage O is when abnormal cells are found on the surface of the skin of the penis. These abnormal cells might form into cancer and spread to other parts of the body but they might not spread at all. Stage O is also referred to as carcinoma in situation. Stage I is when the cancer has formed and spread to connective tissue just under the skin of the penis.

Stage II is when the cancer has spread to the tissue of just under the skin of the penis and to one lymph node in the groin or erectile tissue and may have spread to one lymph node in the groin. Stage III penile cancer is when the cancer has spread to the connective tissue or erectile tissue of the penis and to more than one lymph node on one or both sides of the groin or has spread to the urethra or the prostate. Stage IV is when the cancer has spread to tissues near the penis and may have spread to lymph nodes in the groin or the pelvis or has spread to anywhere in or near the penis or to other distant parts of the body. Recurring penile cancer is cancer that has gone away and returned again. The cancer can come back in the penis or in other parts of the body.

Breast Cancer - A Threat to Women

Breast cancer is still considered the number one killer of woman all over the world today. Each year, millions of women in different regions are diagnosed to be ill with the disease. Once diagnosed with the disease, the life of a woman is immediately shortened by years giving few complications not just to herself but to her family as well.

Despite its long existence, scientists and researchers are still puzzled as to where and how to produce a cure for the disease. Until today, there has been no accurate explanation as to how breast cancer can be acquired by a woman. Millions have already contributed their lives to the deadly illness, millions of women are already living with the condition and millions are still endangered to be afflicted with the silent killer.

Few medically approved ways of treating the infection are openly solicited to those who are already ill, and all these ways require great amount of money to be done. Radiation, surgery, and chemotherapy are three suggested medical operations that can be done to a patient depending upon her condition, but these operations do not guarantee totally recovery for the illness. Literally, once a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, she has to live with it until death. Sad but exactly what everyone should expect.

Studies have been funded to help medical professionals acquire adequate knowledge about the subject. Billions of dollars have already been spent for it, but nothing seems to lead them to an absolute cure for the illness. But we hope that in the next years to come, the threat of breast cancer to women will finally be put to rest.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Defeated With PH Balance and Nutritional Therapy

As a person diagnosed with CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia) since 2001, I've had my eyes trained on Google Alerts and on the web in general, regularly looking for breakthroughs, both conventionally and in the alternative medicine arena. Many people who are diagnosed with CLL are told to hold off on any treatment, as the disease often progresses slowly, and any improvement with treatment is not permanent. Worse yet, the course and aggressiveness of the disease can change at any time. Patients are told to "watch and wait." This is not a happy way to live.

No role models. The sad truth is that, until this past January 2009, I could find no reference (not one) of any person who was cured of CLL through any kind of traditional medical -- or alternative -- therapy. The only exception are those who have been cured by way of a bone marrow transplant (BMT). Unfortunately, many people do not survive the procedure. It is extremely risky. Worse yet, a patient can survive the BMT and still have CLL, or develop CLL again at a later date.

The five-year time-line. Despite all the research and trials, there is still no conventionally-sanctioned therapy (chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, etc.), short of BMT, that can effect a cure. Doctors give patients the hope for a complete remission of five years with some of the available therapies. Not all patients achieve complete remission in the first round of chemotherapy. And the chance of success, measured by five-year survival, decreases with each new form of conventional therapy. Not an encouraging picture. This situation has been evident to me since 2001, when I was forty-six and first diagnosed. Who wants to hear about a five-year life plan when you're forty-six? Not me! While there have been some promising conventional "breakthroughs," the survival rate remains pretty much the same today.

The search for an alternative. My search for an alternative treatment, or treatment protocol, has been equally difficult. I have been able to find testimony on the web of leukemia patients who have become cancer-free (acute myelogenous leukemia or acute lymphocytic leukemia), but no such luck for CLL. At best, there were stories of people who had held off their CLL with the controversial laetrile (apricot seed extract). But no one with CLL had become cancer free. I was discouraged, but I never gave up the search, or my attempt to discover a blueprint to good health.

The 2009 breakthrough. In January of this year, my Google Alerts revealed an article written by Steve Freier, a man with CLL who recovered to full cancer-free health. He regained his health by having his root canals removed and also by taking coral calcium. Because of his experience, I am in the process now of having all my mercury amalgams replaced with safer porcelain fillings. To find information about his recovery, type "Steve Freier" and "CLL" into Google.

Breakthrough #2. In April 2009, while searching for information about infrared saunas and its effect on leukemia, my husband came across this website: http://www.CLLDefeated.com. It is the story of Hessel Baartse, of Adelaide, Australia. He has totally defeated his CLL by means of removing his root canals and mercury amalgams, and by drastically altering his diet and supplementation, with a concentration on restoring his pH levels to a healthy balance. He credits his dentist, www.ericdavisdental.com for his complete recovery.

There are finally role models for CLL recovery. What used to be a complete mystery now is a challenge with a blueprint for success. There are now at least two cases of men who have beat the odds and defeated their CLL by means of mercury amalgam and root canal removal, nutritional therapy, and pH balance. The further good news is that this program is likely a blueprint to health for people with many other chronic health issues, including cancers.

The future. Because of the Internet and the speed with which we can share information, more people will be able to find a way to recover their good health through alternative means.

Discover More About Childhood Leukemia and Its Chronic Symptoms

Are you aware of childhood leukemia and where did it come from? You may be thinking that this is not a problem for you or your children today, but how about the future and the next generation? Nobody can't tell where this hematological disease come from, what may have started it, or what may have caused it. And this is what makes it somewhat depressing.

If you have a child who suffers from this disease, have you tried asking your doctor what may have caused this? Usually they can't really pinpoint which is which, for there are so many possible things that can trigger this, like for instance exposure to chemicals like benzene and dioxins, improper use of plastic materials, multiple nutritional problems, and merely because of genetics. All of these may affect the immune system of a child which may lead to further problems and diseases like this cancer of the blood called leukemia.

Do you know that it has been said that every single person has cancer cells in the body and it is possible that we may have already acquired them even at birth. However, these cancer cells are merely not detected as cancer unless it reaches a certain number which can be confirmed as a detectable size through a series of tests done. So you might be wondering how come your child has reached the age of 2, yet that is the only time that he or she have acquired this disease.

You may not be aware of it at first, but in the previous years or months that you are taking care of your child, he or she might have already acquired the chronic symptoms of leukemia, however wasn't still diagnosed having it because the cancer cells can't still be detected. The chronic symptoms may occur to be as a normal illness like frequent fever any time of the day, occasional stomach aches, sweating at night, bruising, getting colds and cough more often than usual. These symptoms are due to frequent ups and downs of the composition of your child's blood count. And usually a pediatrician would ask for a Complete Blood Count test and may prescribe a medicine to cure any possible infections.

Even a pediatrician can't detect childhood leukemia that soon, unless they have done all the tests and created their own work plan to pin point the main issue. Results of the tests sometimes may lead to severe anemia, or iron deficiency, but with concrete tests such as bone marrow testing, you will then be referred to a hematologist who would be able to read the findings of possible cancer cells present in the bone marrow.

It is not that easy to detect childhood leukemia if you are not aware that cancer is already present in our system and it can be triggered. With a strong immune system you can definitely prevent these cells from multiplying. So, better start living a healthy lifestyle and be aware of the environmental factors which could cause such health issues.

Some Treatment Options For Prostate Cancer

If you are looking for a prostate cancer treatment, what are your options? Treatments vary significantly from case to case. Because prostate cancer is usually very slow growing, one often-prescribed treatment is no treatment at all. This is called "watchful waiting", in which action is only taken if the cancer starts spreading. If a man is in his 70s and his cancer is contained within the prostate gland, the best treatment is usually watchful waiting because the risks involved with treating it outweigh the fact that the man is probably going to die from something completely unrelated to the prostate cancer.

If, however, a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer in his 40s or 50s, the cancer needs to be attacked because there is a good chance that, in this man's lifetime, the cancer will start spreading. Options to attack this cancer include surgery, radiation therapy, as well as other treatments such as hormonal therapy. Surgery is often a good option is the cancer is contained within the prostate gland, as is radiation therapy.

Side effects may include erectile dysfunction, nerve damage, or involuntary urine leakage. The same side effects are present in radiation therapy. One treatment option, which has been getting some media attention, is High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. Supposedly it works the same as radiation therapy without the harmful side effects.

If this type of cancer is in its latter stages (meaning it has spread from the prostate gland) or if the cancer is reoccurring, more treatment options are considered.

Colon Cancer Survival Statistics - What You Didn't Know About Cancer!

Colon cancer was one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the U.S in 2005. 72,000 men and 69,000 women were diagnosed with colorectal cancer. About 26,700 and 26,200 died from colorectal cancer. It is a disease that is very common in today's world, but the good news is that the survival rate has been going up for the last 20 years.

The reason for this is better health care, faster treatment and modern advances. Doctors believe that colon cancer could almost be completely prevented if people went to regular screenings such as a colonoscopy. Today many new techniques for screening are being discovered, they are less intrusive and take less time, so going on routine screenings is easier than ever.

The average survival rate for patients that have been struck by colon cancer is:

62% in Austria
43% in Europe
68% in Korea
62% in the United States of America

It also depends on which stage the cancer is caught. The earlier the stage, the better your chances of survival. For example, if the disease is caught at its earliest stage, all that is needed is a small incision to remove the growth and you're done. At its earliest stage, the survival rate is above 95%. Getting regular screenings is crucial to discovering the disease in time and increasing your chances of survival.

It is said that if Americans were screened regularly, it would save about 25,000 lives each and every year. You can also decrease the chances that you will get cancer by eating healthy foods and living a healthy life.
